Configuring URL monitoring
After you have installed the PATROL for Internet Server, you must configure a monitoring policy. You can use the information in this topic to configure internet server monitor type in TrueSight console.

Before you begin
You must download and install the Internet Server KM.
To configure the URL monitor type
To configure the KM, set the following preferences on the Add Monitoring Configuration dialog:

Internet Server Internet Server URL - In the Global administration settings window, enter the following details:
Global administration settings
Field | Description |

Logging | Enable Logging for all of the configured PATROL Agent environments to confirm that all of the PATROL for Internet Server environments are correctly configured. |
Enable device mapping | By default, when device mapping is enabled, all monitored Internet Server instances are displayed as a device on the Monitoring > Devices page. When device mapping is disabled, monitored information is shown under PATROL Agent. It saves you extra clicks to navigate the PATROL Agent hierarchy while viewing monitoring results. Clear this check box to disable device mapping. Note If you modify this setting after KM discovery, restart the PATROL Agent to apply the changes. |
Import Certificate | |
Certificate Format | Select one of the following certificate formats from the drop-down menu:

Certificate File Path | Enter the location of the certificate file. |
Certificate Password | Enter the password to access the certificate. |
Certificate nickname (applicable for Base 64 encoded certificates) | Enter the certificate nickname, if applicable. |
Server configuration
Click Add and enter the URL configuration details.

URL address | Enter the complete URL you want to monitor in the http://<Host>:<PORT>/<URL> orhttps://<Host>:<PORT>/<URL> format. |
URL display Name | Enter a unique name that identifies the URL that you want to monitor in the BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management Operation console. For better tracking, the label should be named in the device_port_urlName format. |
HTTP request method type | Select the HTTP method type you want to use for the URL from the following:

HTTP encoding | Choose one of the HTML character sets supported by the agent.

HTTP request timeout (sec) | Specify the HTTP timeout request in seconds. If there is no response retrieved before the specified timeout time, an alert will be generated for attribute Page (URL) availability status. Sometimes a server request might take more than 30 seconds to respond. To avoid a timeout error, increase the timeout value. |
Follow web server redirects | Select this check box to enable the monitoring for the redirected URL. When the configured URL is being redirected to another URL, enabling this setting ensures that the configured URL will automatically redirect to another URL. |

OK status code ranges | Specify the range of the status code to set the attribute Content status of the URL to OK. Ranges can be specified in a comma separated list. |

HTTP response check condition | Select the HTTP response check condition to set an alarm for the following conditions:
If Match condition is selected and the string content matches the entered string, the KM will generate an alarm. |

HTTP cookie | Enter the cookie name and value that will be sent with the URL you want to monitor. |
HTTP request referer address | |
HTTP referrer | Enter the fully qualified path to the referrer to the URL of a page to be monitored. |
HTTP request user agent | |
User Agent | Enter the name that identifies the user agent. PATROL is the default user agent. |
Proxy settings
Field | Description |

Port | Enter the proxy port number. |
Proxy connection protocol | Select one of the following protocols:

Proxy Username | Enter the proxy server username. If proxy server authentication is not required, leave it blank. |
Proxy Password | Enter proxy server password. |
You can modify the host, port, and the URL specified. You cannot modify the protocol specified. If you enter an incorrect protocol, delete it and type it again.
After adding all the relevant URLs you want to monitor, click the OK and Close button to save the configuration.
In case if something goes wrong with the configuration of the URL, you can use the system commands to verify the URL. The following commands can help you:
- Linux :
>>wget -vd <some url>
. This command shows response&request messages including a response code" - Solaris:
>>/usr/sfw/bin/wget -vd <some url>
- Windows/AIX:
>>ping <some url>
These commands are used to verify that the system that you are using can communicate over the network with another system or network device.

User Agent | Enter the name that identifies the user agent. PATROL is the default user agent. |
Link Check | Perform the following steps to configure link checks:

HTTP From Fields | |
Field Name | Enter the name, address, or account number associated with the form fields for the URL you want to monitor. |
Field Value | Enter the field value associated with the form fields for the URL monitored. |
Field Encrypted Value | Enter the filed encrypted value. The value you enter will not be visible on the screen. |
Add to List | Click this button to add the HTTP From Fields to the list of HTTP From Fields. |
Modify Selection | Click this button to save the changes made to the HTTP From Field already added. |
Remove from List | Click this button to remove the added HTTP From Field from the list of HTTP From Fields |
- To add the URL you want to monitor to the List - URL Monitoring, click Add to List button.
- To save the changes made to the URL already saved, click Modify Selection button.
- To remove a selected URL from the list of URL monitored, click Remove from List button.
Note
You can modify the host, port, and the URL specified. You cannot modify the protocol specified. If you enter an incorrect protocol, delete it and type it again.
After adding all the relevant URLs you want to monitor, click the Close button to save the configuration.
