Configuring BMC PATROL for Internet Servers

After BMC PATROL for Internet Servers is installed and loaded on a host server, it performs automatic discovery of all web servers using the common port on the local host. You may have to manually discover certain web servers, see Adding servers for monitoring.

On Windows systems that use supported Microsoft IIS servers and supported web servers, the KM processes the entire IIS configuration database or server metabase. From this metabase, the KM extracts server definitions and stores the information in the PATROL Agent's configuration database. When the metabase has been processed, a dialog box opens referring you to the Manage Instances menu command. This command enables you to add servers on non-default ports and remove servers that you do not want to monitor.

Note

For IIS 7 and above, verify that you have IIS scripting installed and that IIS 6 is in compatibility mode.

You can also add remote hosts for monitoring, see Adding hosts for monitoring. After adding a remote host you must manually discover the Web servers on it.

After configuring a web server, you can add web pages for monitoring, see Adding a web page for monitoring.

You can configure the following settings to accommodate your specific system requirements:

  • Adding hosts for monitoring
  • Adding web servers for monitoring
  • Configuring server instances
  • Configuring the Server Root (Home) Directory
  • Configuring the Access Log
  • Configuring the Error Log
  • Setting the Java home
