9.6.00 features

This topic contains information about the features in BMC PATROL for IBM DB2 UDB and provides instructions for downloading the installation files. BMC PATROL for IBM DB2 UDB 9.6.00 provides the ability to monitor your Windows and UNIX systems remotely, supports local and JDBC monitoring. The KM now uses SQL queries and DB2 CLP commands to connect to the database.

Enhancements

BMC ProactiveNet Central Monitoring Administration support

With version 9.6.00 of BMC PATROL for IBM DB2 UDB and version 9.6.00 of BMC ProactiveNet Central Monitoring Administration, you can monitor the following monitoring profiles. Monitoring profiles provide you the capability of monitoring various aspects of the DB2 UDB. You can directly apply the monitoring profile to enable default monitoring for the areas (monitor types) available under that profile. You can also manually configure some of the monitor types that are available for manual configuration.

BMC PATROL for IBM DB2 UDB supports the following new configurations:

  1. Remote Windows DB2 Environment
  2. Remote Unix DB2 Environment

Support dbdiag Log Sequence Number

BMC PATROL for IBM DB2 UDB can now handle the diag log number for rotation DB2 diag log. 

IPv6 support

BMC PATROL for IBM DB2 UDB now supports the IPv6 protocol. That is, BMC PATROL for IBM DB2 UDB can communicate over both IPv6 connections and IPv4 connections.

Support custom SQL queries

BMC PATROL for IBM DB2 UDB supports custom query configuration to fetch specific information about the query.

Better High Availability Disaster Recovery (HADR)

BMC PATROL for IBM DB2 UDB supports the High Availability Disaster Recovery (HADR) feature. HADR type of database will be referred as, <Database name> (HADR).
All HADR primary and standby nodes are displayed under the partitions of the HADR database. 

Removal of deprecated APIs and conversion to SQL queries

BMC PATROL for IBM DB2 UDB now uses db2 clp commands and SQL queries commands instead of using C language API.

Support for monitoring DB2 database

BMC PATROL for IBM DB2 UDB supports DB2 database monitoring.

Downloading the product

This section provides the information that you need to download and install the product from the BMC Electronic Product Distribution (EPD) website.

To download the installation utility and product from the EPD website
  1. Create a directory in which to place the downloaded files.

  2. Go to http://www.bmc.com/available/epd.html.
  3. At the logon prompt, enter your user ID and password, and click Submit.
  4. On the Export Compliance and Access Terms page, provide the required information, agree to the terms of the agreements, and click Continue.
  5. If you are accessing this site for the first time, create an EPD profile to specify the languages and platforms that you want to see, per the EPD site help; otherwise, skip to step 6.
  6. Verify that the correct profile is displayed for your download purpose.
  7. You can download the installation utility and the product patch using either of the following methods:
Using Component View 
  1. In the Filter Products: field, type BMC PATROL Installation Utility.
  2. Click Go.
  3. In the right pane, click BMC PATROL Installation Utility.
  4. In the Version: list, select 9.6.01, and click Go.
  5. In the Products tab, based on the operating system, select the check box next to the files.

  6. To download the selected files, click Download (FTP) or Download Manager:
    • Download (FTP) places the selected items in an FTP directory, and the credentials and FTP instructions are sent to you in an email message.
    • Download Manager enables you to download multiple files consecutively and to resume an interrupted download.
      This method requires a one-time installation of the Akamai NetSession client program on the target computer and is usually the faster and more reliable way to transfer files. A checksum operation is used to verify file integrity automatically.
  7. Click  to close the window.
  8. In the Filter Products: field, type BMC PATROL for DB2.
  9. Click Go.
  10. In the right pane, click BMC PATROL for DB2.
  11. In the Version: list, select 9.6.00, and click Go.
  12. In the Products tab, based on the operating system, select the check box next to the files.

  14. Complete the installation procedure described in the Installing the product section.
Using Licensed Products View 
    1. Click Go To Licensed Products View.
    2. Locate BMC Performance Manager for Databases and expand its entries to show the available version numbers.
    3. Expand BMC Performance Manager for Databases 3.7.00 to show the available components.
    4. Expand BMC PATROL Installation Utility 9.6.01 and BMC PATROL for DB2 9.6.00 to show the available components.
    5. Expand BMC PATROL for DB2 9.6.00 to show the available files.
    6. Select the check box next to the files as appropriate,

Installing the product 

Before you begin

You must install the product on the following computers:

  • Hosts that are running the PATROL Agent
  • Hosts that are running the PATROL Console

Before you install the product, complete the following steps:

  1. Stop the PATROL Agent.
  2. Back up the PATROL_CACHE directory.
  3. Delete all BMC PATROL for DB2 files from the PATROL_CACHE directory.
  4. Back up the PATROL_HOME/lib/knowledge and PATROL_HOME/lib/psl directories.
To install the BMC PATROL for DB2 9.6.00
    1. Extract the installation utility for your operating system as appropriate:

      • For Windows, double-click ins_WINDOWS_9600.zip.
      • For UNIX, enter tar -xvf ins_ALL_9600.tar.

        The contents of the files are extracted into the bmc_products subdirectory.
    2. Extract the product files for your operating system as appropriate:
      • For Windows, double-click pso_ALL_9600.zip.
      • For UNIX, enter tar -xvf pso_ALL_9600.tar.

        The contents of the files are extracted into the bmc_products subdirectory. 
    3. From the bmc_products directory, run the installation utility as appropriate for your operating system:

      • For Windows, double-click setup.exe.

      • For UNIX, run setup.sh.

    4. Follow the on-screen instructions until the Select Products and Components to Install page is displayed. 

    5. On the Select Products and Components to Install page, select BMC PATROL for DB2 9.6.00.

    6. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

      After you complete the installation steps, you can delete the temporary directory and its contents.
