Key concepts
PATROL for Microsoft Azure Virtual Machines monitors services that are provided by Microsoft Azure for instance availability. It reports and monitors availability and performance across critical areas of Azure Services. It issues visual warnings and alarms when thresholds are exceeded, allowing easy identification of problem areas. It enables the event-based triggering of automatic user-supplied recovery or intervention actions.
Support for Microsoft Azure Virtual Machine Scale Sets service
For a list of available attributes, see the following monitor types:
Service Principal based authentication to connect to Microsoft Azure
PATROL for Microsoft Azure now supports Service Principal based authentication to connect to the Microsoft Azure account. For information about how to use this authentication mechanism, see Configuring Microsoft Azure Virtual Machines in the TrueSight or Central Monitoring Administration console.Virtual Machines Host metrics monitoring
PATROL for Microsoft Azure Virtual Machines now monitors performance of host virtual machines. The following metrics have been introduced to support this monitoring:
The operating system related metrics are now available below the guest virtual machines.
Azure Virtual Machine Disk performance monitoring
PATROL for Microsoft Azure now monitors Azure Virtual Machine Logical Disk performance on Windows Virtual Machines. Along with this support, new metrics have been added to enhance Azure Virtual Machine Physical Disk performance. The following metrics have been introduced to support this feature.
Azure Virtual Machine Processor monitoring
PATROL for Microsoft Azure now measures various aspects of processor activity on Windows Virtual Machines. The following metrics have been introduced to support this monitoring:
Monitor type | Attribute |
---|---|
Azure VM Processor Information (PAF_PROCESSOR_INFORMATION) | |
Azure VM System (PAF_SYSTEM) |
Usability enhancements
You can now view the performance metrics of guest virtual machines and host virtual machines in a distinct hierarchy on the TrueSight and the PATROL consoles. All the operating system performance metrics are now available below the guest (Guest OS Metrics monitor type) and the individual host metrics are available below the respective host (Host Metrics monitor type).
