Status of Simultaneous MultiThreading (SMTStatus)
This parameter indicates whether the AIX partition is running in multithreading mode. When multithreading is enabled the value of the parameter SMT is 1; when multithreading is disabled the value of the parameter SMT is 0.
Simultaneous multithreading (SMT) is a technique to improve the overall efficiency of superscalar CPUs. SMT permits multiple independent threads http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thread_%28computer_science%29 of execution to better utilize the resources provided by modern processor architectures. When SMT is enabled or disabled on a logical partition, the number of virtual processors gets doubled or halved respectively, and accordingly the SMP instances get created or destroyed.
