Self-health monitoring events

TrueSight IT Data Analytics sends the self-health monitoring events for the following capabilities:

  • Archiving
  • Purging

For both the capabilities, archiving and purging, TrueSight IT Data Analytics generates the following events:

  • INFO event for success
  • CRITICAL event for failure

You do not have to perform any action on such events. When you receive a CRITICAL event, go to the TrueSight IT Data Analytics logs, understand the failure reason, and take corrective actions. When the issue is fixed, the CRITICAL events are closed by the system and INFO events are generated. If archiving or purging fails one day and succeeds the next day, the logs are archived or purged completely till the day when these activities are successful.

If archiving or purging fails more than one day consecutively, on the first day, a CRITICAL event is generated. The next day, the counter of the same event is incremented by 1 until the archiving or purging is successful. In the TrueSight console, the last modified time of a CRITICAL event is the time when the counter is increased last. The CRITICAL event is closed automatically when an INFO event is generated for the same activity. To view an event based on the creation time, see Viewing events by absolute time.

Setting the destination to send self-health monitoring events

  1. Navigate to the Self Health Monitoring Events Destination field in Administration > System Settings.
  2. Select the destination. The default destination path is set to None.
Note: You will be able to see the destination for sending the Self Health Monitoring events if you have already created external configurations of the types TSIM Configuration or TSIM Cell Configuration. For more information, see Setting up external configurations.
  3. Click Save.

You can view the self-health monitoring events that TrueSight IT Data Analytics sends to the selected destination by navigating to its console for example, the TSIM configuration. For more information, see  Viewing the health of the Infrastructure Management components from the operator console. Open link

Viewing events by absolute time

If you want to search an event based on when it was first created, you must select it on the basis of the absolute time. For example, if an archive has failed and generated a CRITICAL event on 01 February 2018. The archive fails again on 02 February 2018 and on 03 February 2018, and generates a CRITICAL event each time. If you want to search for the event, you must select the absolute time as 01 February 2018.

To select absolute time in the console

  1. Navigate to Time.
  2. On the Quick Filter Time Selector pop-up window, select Absolute time and select the From and To time.
  3. In From time, select the time.
Select time as 01/02/2018 and not 03/02/2018.
