Checking for a missing DLL file (Windows 2003)

In Windows 2003 environments only, you see the following error if the framedyn.dll file is not in the system directory:

This Application has failed to start because Framedyn.Dll missing

As a result, the installer cannot capture available memory. To fix the problem, Microsoft has published the following Knowledge Base entry and workaround to replace the missing framedyn.dll file:

To replace the framedyn.dll file

  1. Click Start, and then Run.
  2. In the Open box, type %systemroot%\system32\dllcache, and then click OK.
  3. Right-click framedyn.dll, and then click Copy on the shortcut menu that appears.
  4. Click Start, and then Run.
  5. In the Open box, type %systemroot%\system32\wbem, and then click OK.
  6. From the Edit menu, select Paste.
     If you are prompted to replace the existing file, click Yes.
