Setting the Max-Entries-Per-Query option

The Max-Entries-Per-Query parameter specifies the maximum number of requests that a search can return. The default value is set to 2000.

Best practice
The default value is not specified in versions prior to 9.1.02. If you are using a version prior to 9.1.02, we recommend that you set the Max-Entries-Per-Query parameter because unqualified searches can yield enormous result sets. This leads to a large amount of memory allocated to each BMC Remedy AR System server thread that processes this type of search. In addition, queries will take longer to execute and use more database resources

Limit the entries to be displayed to no more than 2000 entries. Depending on the functional requirements of your business, it might be optimal to set this parameter as low as 300.

Users can specify the maximum number of requests returned through Search Preferences in the AR System User Preference form, but the actual maximum is the lower of these values.

Similarly, you can adjust how much data is returned by setting the chunk size for table field or form results lists. The default table-field chunk size is 1000. Table field chunk size can be set at a field property level if a size other than the default is needed. Form- level results list chunking can be set as a view property.

Note

For a table field, the value of the Max-Entries-Per-Query parameter supersedes the value of  chunk size.

To set the Max-Entries-Per-Query option

You can set the Max-Entries-Per-Query option in the AR System Configuration Generic UI form. The Max-Entries-Per-Query option maps to the Max Entries Returned by GetList field in the AR System server.

  1. In a browser, open the Remedy AR System Administration Console, and click System > General > Server Information.
The AR System Administration: Server Information form appears.
  2. Click the Configuration tab.
  3. In the Max Entries Returned by GetList field, enter the value that you need to set.
We recommend you to set this value to 2000.

You can also set this parameter by adding this parameter to the ar.cfg file in the AR server.

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
