From which versions can I perform a direct upgrade? | You can perform a direct upgrade of BMC Helix Service Management from versions 23.3.x, 25.1.01, or 25.2.01 to version 25.3.01 |
What is the difference between upgrading from an earlier version or later version than 23.3.x? | You can perform a direct upgrade of BMC Helix Service Management from versions later version than 23.3.x. However, upgrading from versions earlier than 23.3.x includes a step upgrade. |
How do I upgrade from version 23.3.x and later? | To upgrade from versions 23.3.x and later, perform a direct upgrade to BMC Helix Service Management 25.3.01. |
How do I upgrade from an earlier version than 23.3.x? | To upgrade from versions earlier than 23.3.x, you must first upgrade to BMC Helix Service Management 23.x version or later and then proceed to upgrade to the 25.3.01 version. |

From which versions can I upgrade? | You can perform an upgrade of BMC Helix Service Management from version 21.3.x, 22.1.x, 23.3.x, or 25.1.01 to 25.2.01. |
Do I need to upgrade BMC Helix Platform Common Services? | Yes. Review the system requirements to ensure that you upgrade to the supported version of BMC Helix Platform Common Services. |
What is the recommended sizing guideline? | BMC publishes guidelines for hardware sizing based on a series of enterprise-scale tests to demonstrate the scalability and performance of the platform and the applications. To know more refer to Sizing and scalability. |
Key questions to determine the upgrade scope
Review the planning decisions and related information in the table to plan the upgrade scope and decide whether to deploy new components.

---|---|
Can I upgrade just the platform components? | No. You cannot upgrade only the platform components while upgrading BMC Helix Service Management to version 25.3.01. To use only the platform components, you can switch to CORE deployment mode after the upgrade. For information about the deployment modes and transitioning to the CORE mode deployment, see Transitioning between deployment modes. |
Can I upgrade just the applications? | No. You must upgrade the platform to upgrade the applications. |
Can I minimize my environment footprint and choose to use only the platform? | Yes. You can minimize the footprint of your BMC Helix Service Management environment by upgrading BMC Helix Service Management to version 25.3.01, and then transitioning to the CORE mode deployment. The CORE mode deployment loads only the required platform components into memory only the services you actively use. You can reduce memory and CPU consumption by not starting unused processes and not loading unused metadata and application bundles. |
Can I minimize my environment footprint and choose to use only BMC HelixGPT? | Yes. You can upgrade BMC Helix Service Management, and then transition to the CORE mode deployment of BMC Helix Service Management. While transitioning, select the CORE deployment mode and the BMC HelixGPT option. |
