What are the hardware requirements?

Before installing BMC Helix Service Management, make sure that you plan for the required hardware. Review the minimum hardware requirements and plan the optimal infrastructure to support your deployment.

How do I determine the number of systems I need to support my installation?

BMC Helix publishes guidelines for hardware sizing based on a series of enterprise-scale tests to demonstrate the scalability and performance of the platform and the applications.

What are the software requirements?

How do I determine which components to deploy?BMC Helix Service Management offers CORE and FULL deployment modes. Review all the components that you need and select the deployment mode that best suits your requirements.

What are the available deployment modes?

BMC Helix Service Management supports two deployment modes: CORE and FULL. Review the components you need and choose the mode that aligns with your operational goals.

You can choose from the following deployment options:

  • (Controlled availability customers only) CORE deployment—Loads only the following essential platform components:
    • BMC Helix Innovation Suite
    • BMC Helix CMDB
    • Foundation data objects
    • (Optional) BMC HelixGPT and Clam AntiVirus
  • FULL deployment (Default)—Loads all available BMC Helix Service Management components and applications into memory.

Important: Regardless of the selected mode, the system installs the complete solution. You can activate additional applications later without requiring a separate installation.

Can I install just the platform components?

Choose the CORE deployment mode while installing BMC Helix Service Management. In the CORE mode, the system installs the complete BMC Helix Service Management solution, including all platform and application components. However, only the platform components are activated, while the application pods are scaled down to zero replicas.

Can I install only BMC HelixGPT along with the platform components?When installing BMC Helix Service Management, choose the CORE deployment mode and select the BMC HelixGPT option. This selection only activates the platform components and BMC HelixGPT.

What are the pre-requisites for a fresh installation?

BMC Helix Service Management uses the BMC Helix Platform Common Services. Before performing the BMC Helix Service Management installation, you must install the BMC Helix Platform Common Services.

What preparations are required for a fresh installation?

To prepare the environment for installation, perform the tasks in the Preparing-for-installation section. 

Where do I find the installation files and container images?

The installation files are available on the BMC Electronic Product Distribution (EPD) site. The container images are hosted on BMC Docker Trusted Registry (DTR) containers.bmc.com.

You can download the installation files from the EPD site. The installation files include the following artifacts:

  • Git repositories and artifacts used for installation
  • Database dump files
  • Container images access key to access the container images hosted on BMC DTR

You do not need to download the container images.
