Synchronizing environments
BMC provides BMC Helix ITSM as a fully managed service to customers who want to take advantage of the cost savings and improved service of moving their ITSM system to the cloud.
During the project to migrate a customer from an on-premises system to a SaaS system, BMC SaaS Operations uses BMC Helix Data Manager to load the customer's data is loaded into an onboarding environment. The database is then copied from the onboarding system to QA and Production systems.
The Onboarding database is backed up and then restored to the Production database, after manual "ITSM DB Refresh" steps are performed to ensure the Onboarding system references are transformed to Production system references. This process can be time consuming, taking many hours. This time factor can have a major impact on the outage time taken during the final production cutover from on-premises to SaaS.
To prepare and synchronize environments, you can use BMC Helix Data Manager to remove the inconsistency inherent in this task and reduce cutover time between environments.
For environment synchronization, consider the following elements of transformation:
Task | Summary | Description |
1 | BMC Helix Data Manager backs up data (such as license data or records containing passwords) from the target system. This data will be restored into the database prior to the backup being taken.
2 | Remove data. | |
3 | Restore the data backed up in the Backup step.
4 | Transform server references in the data set. |
