Available migration packs

Use Migration Packs to perform migrations in BMC Helix Data Manager.

A Migration Pack contains the instructions that are passed to BMC Helix Data Manager Engine when you perform import and export operations. A Migration Pack is linked to a particular source and target Data Dictionary and can be used to migrate data between any two systems that are linked to those Data Dictionaries.

Depending on the products that you are migrating, you might need to use more than one Migration Pack.

Important

The supported migration versions are not dependent on the version of the BMC Helix Data Manager tool.

For example, you can use BMC Helix Data Manager version 21.3.01 to perform BMC Helix ITSM migration to version 22.1 or later.

However, we recommend that you use the latest version of BMC Helix Data Manager.

Supported Migration Packs for data migration

The following table lists the supported source versions from which you can migrate data:

If you want to migrate data from a simple BMC Helix ITSM system version 19.08 to 22.1, you will need the following Migration Packs:

For a more involved migration that includes BMC Digital Workplace Catalog and BMC Helix ITSM version 20.02 to 22.1, you will need the following Migration Packs:

The following Migration Packs are included with BMC Helix Data Manager:

In the following tables, the <source> refers to source versions, and <target> refers to target versions.

BMC Helix ITSM	Master Template Clear Down ITSM <target>	*/ITSM/<target>*	Exports all data in the scope of the Migration Pack as part of the clear down of AR System, which is the first step of the Staged Upgrade methodology. By default, the All Companies parameter is configured with the following qualification: ($Company$ != "- Global -") This qualification removes all companies, excluding Global (all customers, manufacturers, suppliers, and operating companies). Reconfigure the parameter to retain any data in the target system. BMC Helix ITSM - Workflow Migration Utility - Flat migration packs	Important When using the Workflow Migration Utility, make sure that you have selected the correct WMU migration packs. Template WMU Flat Upgrade ITSM 20.x to 2x.x Template WMU Flat Clear Down.cmt	/pub/BMC_Helix_Data_Manager/HDM Metadata/22.1 Target/ITSM - Workflow Migration Utility/20.x to 22.1 /pub/BMC_Helix_Data_Manager/HDM Metadata/22.1 Target/ITSM - Workflow Migration Utility	Use this pack to migrate flattened data after you run the Workflow Migration Utility. Flattened data refers to the data without parent-child relationships of the forms. The Flat Pack includes all the migration forms at the root node. This pack simplifies the form count analysis as it does not migrate the parent-child relationship of the forms involved in migration. The Flat pack also removes the need to perform the optional form analysis and approval enrichments. This pack consists of two migration sets, Environment flat migration set and CMDB flattened migration set. Use the CMDB Flattened migration set with the Environment Flat migration set if you want to normalize your CMDB data during migration. Use the Environment Flat migration set to migrate all data excluding the CMDB data templates. BMC Helix ITSM: Smart IT	Template Upgrade SmartIT <source> to <target>	/SmartIT	Migrates data from BMC Helix ITSM: Smart IT business and system schema tables from the source system to the target system.
	Template Upgrade Openfire to <target>	/SmartIT	Migrates data from Openfire schema tables from the source system to the target system.
	Post Migration Data Update Template SmartIT	/SmartIT	Post-migration scripts that are executed on the target system to update data and perform other activities such as resetting Next ID values.
	Template Upgrade SmartIT Forms <source> to <target>	/SmartIT/SmartIT_SMTForms	Migrates SMT-related forms (such as SMT:Administration:Application) from the source system to the target system. Important Do not use this Migration Pack if you are migrating BMC Helix ITSM: Smart IT data to version 22.1.06.
	Template Clear Down SmartIT <target>	/SmartIT/SmartIT_SMTForms	Creates a backup of data in the SMT-related forms in the target system, and then clears down (deletes) that data on the target. Important Do not use this Migration Pack if you are migrating BMC Helix ITSM: Smart IT data to version 22.1.06.
BMC Helix ITSM: Smart Reporting	Template Smart Reporting Migration <source> to <target>	/Smart Reporting	Migrates data related to BMC Helix ITSM: Smart Reporting from the source system to the target system.
	Data Update Templates - Smart Reporting	/Smart Reporting	Post-migration scripts are executed on the target system to update data and perform other activities such as resetting Next ID values.
	Pre-Migration Script - Smart Reporting.cmt	/Smart Reporting	Pre-migration script is used to to store configuration data. The script is executed on the target system to take a backup of configuration data before performing the migration task.

BMC Helix ITSM Migration Packs

The following Migration Packs are used to perform the data operations required to execute a successful upgrade:

BMC standard ITSM Environment upgrade migration set for environment upgrades: This pack is intended to be used with the Global ITSM <19.08, 20.02> to 21.05 pack. This pack migrates all company-related data between the two versions. This pack is used for the Staged Upgrade methodology and the Copy and Upgrade methodology. BMC standard ITSM Global upgrade migration set for environment upgrades: This pack is intended to be used with the Environment Upgrade ITSM <19.08, 20.02> to 21.3 pack. This pack moves targeted - Global - data required for a successful upgrade. Some forms in this package are disabled by default, because they are hardly changed from out-of-the-box configuration and need careful management in an upgrade scenario. Review the configuration to ensure it is appropriate for your system. This pack is used for the Staged Upgrade methodology, and the Copy and Upgrade methodology.
Master Template Clear Down ITSM <target>	Clear down non-Global company and catalog data in an ITSM 20.0x system to create a clean baseline into which data can be migrated. This Migration Pack is used for the Staged Upgrade methodology only.

Migration Pack

Description

Master Template Upgrade ITSM <source> to <target>

Master Template Upgrade ITSM Migration Pack contains migration sets for both Global and Environment migration which must be used for successful migration.

BMC standard ITSM Environment upgrade migration set for environment upgrades: This pack is intended to be used with the Global ITSM <19.08, 20.02> to 21.05 pack. This pack migrates all company-related data between the two versions.

This pack is used for the Staged Upgrade methodology and the Copy and Upgrade methodology.

BMC standard ITSM Global upgrade migration set for environment upgrades: This pack is intended to be used with the Environment Upgrade ITSM <19.08, 20.02> to 21.3 pack. This pack moves targeted - Global - data required for a successful upgrade.

Some forms in this package are disabled by default, because they are hardly changed from out-of-the-box configuration and need careful management in an upgrade scenario. Review the configuration to ensure it is appropriate for your system.

This pack is used for the Staged Upgrade methodology, and the Copy and Upgrade methodology.

Master Template Clear Down ITSM <target>

Clear down non-Global company and catalog data in an ITSM 20.0x system to create a clean baseline into which data can be migrated.

This Migration Pack is used for the Staged Upgrade methodology only.

Environment upgrade migration set

The following templates are part of the Environment ITSM upgrade migration set in the "Master Template Upgrade ITSM <source> to <target>" Migration Pack.

Template name	Type	Purpose
All Data	Export	Exports all data in the scope of the Migration Pack (that is, all non-Global data). This should be used as part of the Staged Upgrade methodology. Includes data owned by companies that are filtered by the following static qualification: ($Company Type$ != "- System -") AND ($Status$ = "Enabled") Review and adapt this qualification to include only the companies you need to include.
All Data & Modified Audit Logs	Export	Exports all data in the scope of the Migration Pack (that is, all non-Global data) but allows you to filter the audit logs by the Last Modified Date. This template is used in a final cutover as part of the Staged Upgrade methodology, where the bulk of audit log data has been previously migrated by using the Audit Logs Only template.
All Data Excluding SLM Config	Export	Exports all data excluding Service Level Management (SLM) configuration data. SLM configuration can be migrated by the SLM Config Only template.
All Data Incremental	Export	Provides incremental data migration of all non-Global data, which includes data with a Modified Date between the specified Date Range. This template is used as part of the incremental migrations necessary to support the Copy and Upgrade methodology. This template can also be used during a final cutover migration for the Staged Upgrade methodology. After the SLM data has been built in the target system, Service Level Management configuration cannot be migrated, even by using an incremental pack.
Audit Logs Only	Export	Exports only the audit log data. This template is used as part of the Staged Upgrade methodology. For example, the audit log data can be migrated prior to the final cutover, and the All Data and Modified Audit Logs template can be used during the final cutover.
SLM Config Only	Export	Migrates data for an SLM configuration only. This template allows you to migrate and build an SLM configuration in isolation without the AR System server processes making changes to transactional data. See the AR System server and data management section for details of the constraints.
Default	Import	This import template can be used for any of the non-incremental export templates.
Incremental	Import	This import template can be used for any of the incremental export templates. This template checks all selected forms in the DEFAULT Form Deletion list and deletes data that exists in the target but not the source system.

Global ITSM migration set

The following templates are part of the Global ITSM upgrade migration set in the "Master Template Upgrade ITSM <19.08, 20.02> to 21.3" Migration Pack.

All Data	Export	Exports targeted Global data. This should be used as part of the Staged Upgrade methodology.	Global company [static qualification]
Incremental	Export	Provides incremental data migration of all Global data, which includes data with a Modified Date between the specified Date Range. This template is used as part of the incremental migrations necessary to support the Copy and Upgrade methodology. Enabling deletions for Global data might delete new data associated with the Global customer in the new 9.1 or later ITSM version. Placing a change freeze around global data can remove the requirement to perform an incremental migration. If you have a global data set with changes including deletions of data around the configuration of out-of-the-box data, use carefully targeted deletion with this template as part of the initial migration of global data for the Staged Upgrade methodology. In this scenario, configure a date range that includes all data combined with a carefully selected set of form deletions.	Global company [static qualification] Last Modified Date [prompt date range]

Forms excluded from Standard Migration Pack

The Standard (Template) Migration Pack does not contain all the forms of the BMC application for migration. However, to migrate these forms, you can include them in the Migration Pack at any time.
