Viewing metadata files

BMC Helix Data Manager allows metadata to be exported and imported into the BMC Helix Data Manager Repository. You can export and import the following entities:

  • Data Analysis Discoveries
  • Data Analysis Sets
  • Data Update Sets
  • Data Enrichment Template
  • Data Dictionaries
  • Form Deletion Lists
  • Form Counts
  • Migration Packs
  • Relationships Rules
  • Server Reference Sets

You can share metadata between your BMC Helix Data Manager installations, for example, to download and import template migration packs from the BMC Helix Data Manager Support web site.

Metadata is compressed and stored in a .cmt suffixed file.

Metadata files are exported to and imported from files held in the output directory in your BMC Helix Data Manager Engine deployment. The typical path on a Windows deployment is C:\Program Files\BMC Software\Helix Data Manager\Metadata. You can manually add and remove metadata file packages from this location.

Only a user with administrator permissions can manage metadata.

To scan for metadata files

  1. In BMC Helix Data Manager WorkBench, select Configuration > Import HDM Meta Data.
The Meta Data Manager page appears.

If you are migrating your data from Remedy on-premise system to BMC Helix ITSM cloud, consider the following points:

    • On-premises BMC Helix Data Manager: Import the metadata of the target data dictionary file copied from the development staging server.
    • Development staging server BMC Helix Data Manager: Import the metadata file of the source data dictionary file copied from the on-premises.

For more information, see Migration process for Remedy on-premises to BMC Helix Innovation Suite Cloud.
