Registering source and target systems
BMC Helix Data Manager can interact with registered systems. You cannot perform discovery or migration activities until the system is correctly registered.
BMC Helix Data Manager connects directly to your underlying database to perform the majority of interactions. If you register a BMC Helix ITSM system, you can use the AR System APIs in BMC Helix Data Manager to build BMC Helix ITSM workflows.
BMC Helix Data Manager requires a dedicated database user with permission to access your database. You can create a user by using manual database scripts from your database administrator or automatically with BMC Helix Data Manager.
BMC Helix Data Manager needs database administrator user permissions to run these scripts automatically. If your DBA does not have these permissions, provide your DBA with the BMC Helix Data Manager database user setup scripts and documentation located at C:\Program Files\BMC Software\Helix Data Manager\Engine\artifacts\manual_integration.
Registering systems for On-premises to On-premises migration
If you are migrating data from on-premises to on-premises environment, you have access to the source and target systems. Install the BMC Helix Data Manager tool on the target on-premises environment, and register the source and target systems for migration in the BMC Helix Data Manager tool.
Registering systems for Remedy on-premise to BMC Helix Innovation Suite Cloud migration
If you are migrating data from Remedy on-premise to BMC Helix Innovation Suite Cloud, install the BMC Helix Data Manager tool on the customer's on-premise environment and on the BMC Helix ITSM cloud. You must register the source and target systems for migration in both instances of BMC Helix Data Manager tool.
The source system is your on-premises system with a copy of the latest on-premises production database, and the target system is the development staging server. During provisioning, the BMC team registers the target system in BMC Helix Data Manager on the development staging server. Verify that the target system is registered on the development staging server.
