You can perform the following functions from the File System page:

  • Manage File Systems—Add, modify, and remove file systems.
  • Create Remedy Systems & Engines Connections—Associate Remedy systems with a file system.
  • Scan File System—Scan the file system for data packages and store the contents in BMC Helix Data Manager Repository.
  • View Data Packages—View the list and contents of data packages on the file systems.
  • Delete Data Package—Permanently delete n data package from the file system.
  • Import Data Package—Import the data held in a data package into a BMC Helix ITSM system. This feature can be used to import a data package that was created in another instance of BMC Helix Data Manager.
  • Link Remedy Systems & Engines—We recommend using the Configuration wizard to define the connections between your Remedy systems and the BMC Helix Data Manager Engine and file systems. Advanced users might prefer to use the Connections tab of the File System page.

To create new connections, define the following fields:

Field

Description

Type

Select one of the following options:

  • Remedy System—The connection that the Remedy System database uses when exporting Data Dump files.
  • Engine—The BMC Helix Data Manager Engine connection to the file system used only when performing BCP exports or FLAT exports and import operations for Oracle.

System or Engine

Select the name of the system or engine for this connection.

Path

For Windows, you can use a standard path (for example, C:\HDM) or UNC path to connect with file systems on the network (for example, \\SERVERNAME\ShareName). We recommend using the file protocol where possible. When accessing network file system locations, note the user credentials associated with the Windows service or UNIX daemon running the BMC Helix Data Manager Engine. You can configure a specific Windows or UNIX user to run the BMC Helix Data Manager Engine service.

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
