Downloading the installation files


You obtain the product installation files by downloading them from the BMC Electronic Product Distribution (EPD) website. The license entitlements that your company purchased determine your ability to access product pages on the EPD website.

BMC Helix Data Manager is currently available only to customers in the Controlled Availability (CA) program.

Before you begin

To download BMC Helix Data Manager files from the BMC Electronic Product Distribution (EPD), you need a password.

To get the password, you must complete the following training course:

After you complete the trainings, contact your BMC Account Manager to obtain the password.

Installation files

Select the EPD link to download the product installation files for your platform. Access to the EPD website requires that you provide your BMC Support credentials. You might also be prompted to complete the Export Compliance Form.

To download the migration packs

Important

  1. Using a FTP client (WinSCP, FileZilla, or CuteFTP), log on to ftp.bmc.com.
  2. In the Login screen, provide the following information:
    1. From the File protocol list, select FTP.
    1. In the Host name field, enter ftp.bmc.com as the host name.
    2. In the Port number field, ensure that the port number is selected as 21. If not, enter 21.
    3. In the User name field, enter anonymous. 
    4. In the Password field, enter your customer email address as the password.
      For example, the following image shows the Login screen for WinSCP:

  1. Click Login.
  2. Navigate to the BMC Helix Data Manager Metadata directory by explicitly entering the path /pub/BMC_Helix_Data_Manager.
    For example, if you are using WinSCP, click the Open Directory icon. In the Open Directory field, enter /pub/BMC_Helix_Data_Manager.

  3. Open the HDM Metadata folder and download the metadata appropriate for your project.

To download and install BMC Helix Data Manager hotfixes

Important

To install BMC Helix Data Manager hotfix version 21.3.05.019, download and run the 21.3.05.019 installer by performing the steps given in the topic Performing-the-installation.

For hotfixes before version 21.3.05.019, perform the steps in the following section.

Best practice
After you install BMC Helix Data Manager, or patches, we recommend that you apply the latest hotfixes.

  1. Download the latest BMC Helix Data Manager hotfix.
    To obtain the latest hotfix, contact BMC Support.

  2. Unzip the BMC Helix Data Manager Hotfix ZIP file to get the HDM.jar, HDMWorkBench.war, and scripts.sql files.
  3. Read through the Readme file present in the Hotfix ZIP to decide whether to apply a hotfix. The Readme file also contains the instructions for applying the hotfix.
  4. Open the Windows Services Manager and stop the BMC HDM Engine, and BMC HDM Workbench services.
  5. Copy the HDM.jar file to your HDM Engine library directory.
    The default location of the HDM Engine library directory is C:\Program Files\BMC Software\Helix Data Manager\Engine\lib.
  6. Copy the HDM.jar to your HDM Workbench library directory.
    The default location of the HDM Repository library directory is C:\Program Files\BMC Software\Helix Data Manager\Repository\lib.
  7. Copy the HDMWorkBench.war file to your HDM Workbench Application directory.
    The default location of the HDM Workbench application directory is C:\Program Files\BMC Software\Helix Data Manager\Workbench\app.
  8. Copy the artifacts if any to the artifacts folder.
    The default location of the artifacts directory is C:\Program Files\BMC Software\Helix Data Manager\Engine\artifacts.
  9. Run scripts.sql file.
  10. Start the BMC HDM Engine and BMC HDM Workbench services from Windows services manager.
  11. Verify the installation by performing the following steps:
    1. Log in to BMC Helix Data Manager.
    2. On the Home page, click About.
    3. On the About BMC HDM screen, verify that the correct version number is displayed.
