Accessing and navigating the Workbench


BMC Helix Data Manager Workbench is the web user interface of the BMC Helix Data Manager, which enables you to manage every aspect of data migration configuration, including data mappings, data sets, full-migration control, real-time monitoring and exception management.

When you log in to BMC Helix Data Manager Workbench for the first time, the Home page guides you to the tasks you can perform.

To log in

  1. To log in to BMC Helix Data Manager Workbench, open the shortcut created on the desktop after installation or enter the following URL in your browser: webServer/HDMWorkBench 
    The login page prompts you for your user name and password, enter these details and press Enter in the password field or click Login:

    • User name: hdm
    • Password: DataM@nag3r

    The currently logged-in user is shown next to the User Account link on the Navigation menu.

  2. To reset this password after initial login, select Configuration > Users.
  3. To log out of BMC Helix Data Manager, select User Account > Logout.

Home page

The Home page is the first page displayed after you log in to the BMC Helix Data Manager Workbench. From this page, you can access the following functions:

Systems

Summary of the configuration of systems that have been registered with BMC Helix Data Manager. To drill down to detailed information about the registered system, click System and select the system from the menu.

Request a Discovery Job

Discovery job enables BMC Helix Data Manager to collect important information about the forms, fields, and workflow on your system. This data is used to build the relationship sets and migration packs that allow you to migrate data between systems.

You will see when you install BMC Helix Data Manager and open it for the first time.

Migration Jobs

List of migration jobs, which you can filter. You can also drill down to review the details of a migration job.

Export & Import

List of all export and import jobs run by BMC Helix Data Manager.

Deletion Jobs

List of deletion jobs, which you can filter. You can also drill down to review the details of a deletion job.

Jobs & Activities

List of jobs and activities, which you can filter. You can also drill down to review the details the job.

Engine

Engines that are registered with the BMC Helix Data Manager Repository, showing the time they last connected, list of jobs and activities, and the set of systems that the engine supports. In a typical installation, there is only one engine, and it is automatically registered. If requested jobs and activities are not being processed, this page is useful for checking that an engine is registered and polling the repository for tasks.

Audit

Filterable list of all import, export and delete operations for all forms across all of your systems.

Migration List

List of migration jobs for migrating small sets of data between systems more quickly than using a migration pack.

Systems tab

The Systems tab shows all registered systems grouped by environment. Each tab shows the systems within each environment.

For each system, a summary of the configuration and any discovery information is displayed.

Migration Jobs tab

The Migration Jobs tab shows a list of all migration jobs that have been created. From this tab, you can perform the following actions:

  • Drill down to view the details of the migration job—Select a job from the list and click View to view the details of the migration job.
  • Refresh the list to obtain the latest information—Click Refresh to obtain the latest list of migration jobs from the BMC Helix Data Manager repository.
  • Filter the list of migration jobs displayedEnter text or select from the list at the top of the column to filter the list of migration jobs. To sort the list by any of the columns, click the column heading.
  • Archive migration job—Move the migration job to the local archive. This action simply hides the job from the list, but any data exported or imported continues to appear in the audit logs.

Export & Import tab

The Export & Import tab shows a list of all import or export jobs that have been created in BMC Helix Data Manager.

  • Drill down to view the details of the job—Select a job from the list and click View to view the details of the activity in a dialog box.
  • Refresh the list to obtain the latest information—Click Refresh to obtain the latest list of activities from BMC Helix Data Manager Repository.
  • Filter the list of activities displayedEnter text or select from the list at the top of the column to filter the list of migration jobs. For example, to list only activities that are in progress, select In Progress from the list under the Status column heading. To sort the list by any of the columns, click the column heading.

Deletion Jobs tab

The Deletion Jobs tab shows a list of all deletion jobs that have been created. From this tab, you can perform the following actions:

  • Drill down to view the details of the deletion job—Select a job from the list and click View to view the details of the deletion job.
  • Refresh the list to obtain the latest information—Click Refresh to obtain the latest list of deletion jobs from the BMC Helix Data Manager repository.
  • Filter the list of deletion jobs displayedEnter text or select from the list at the top of the column to filter the list of deletion jobs. To sort the list by any of the columns, click the column heading.

Jobs & Activities tab

The Jobs & Activities tab shows a list of all tasks that have been created. Jobs track long-running actions that BMC Helix Data Manager performs, such as discovery or data migration. Activities track short-running tasks that BMC Helix Data Manager can perform in parallel.

From this tab, you can perform the following actions:

  • Drill down to view the details of the job—Select a job from the list and click View to view the details of the job or activity.
  • Refresh the list to obtain the latest information—Click Refresh to obtain the latest list of jobs from the BMC Helix Data Manager Repository.
  • Filter the list of Jobs or Activities displayedEnter text or select from the list at the top of the column to filter the list of jobs. For example, to list only jobs that are completed, select Complete from the list under the Status column heading. To sort the list by any of the columns, click the column heading as shown in the following figure:
