Resetting the Application Service password

If you change the Application Service password on the AR System Administration: Server Information form after you install Flashboards, you must run the Flashboards driver to reset the password before running the BMC Remedy Flashboards server again. If you do not reset the password, the BMC Remedy Flashboards server will not be able to log onto the BMC Remedy AR System server.

Note

To avoid authentication failures, passwords for BMC Remedy AR System applications must not exceed 20 characters.

To reset the Application Service password

  1. From the UNIX command line or the Windows Command Prompt, change to the Flashboards installation directory.
  2. Run the command from <AR_Install_Dir>/flashboards folder.
  3. Enter the following commands:
    For Microsoft Windows:

    java -classpath arutil<versionNumber>_<buildNumber>.jar;flashd<versionNumber>_<buildNumber>.jar;. FBDriver -DflashInstallPath= <FlashboardsInstallationDirectory>

    For UNIX:

    java -classpath arutil<versionNumber>_<buildNumber>.jar:flashd<versionNumber>_<buildNumber>.jar:. FBDriver -DflashInstallPath= <FlashboardsInstallationDirectory>

    Note

The Windows command uses semicolons, and the UNIX command uses colons.

  4. Type spw to set the password.

    Note

You must use only ASCII characters in the password. Using non-ASCII characters, accented characters, or special characters from Windows-1252 encoding (for example, AB#Cdefgh1@I€j€kl#) generates an installation error.

  5. Follow the instructions on the screen.

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
