Estimating the size of the FTS index
Place the FTS index in a directory that has sufficient disk space. The directory must be large enough to accommodate at least twice the amount of data indexed for FTS. For example, if the total amount of data in all fields to index for FTS in all forms is 100 MB, then at least 200 MB of disk space is required for the indexes. (This example is only an approximation.)
To estimate the size of the FTS index
- Estimate the amount of text in your database.
For example, take a small sample of requests and calculate the average size of data in the field. Then, multiply this average by the number of BMC Remedy AR System requests to derive the size of text in your database. - Multiply by a minimum of 2.
The ratio of the size of the FTS index to source text can differ widely based on, for example, the size of your Ignore Words List.
Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
