Loading data from an excel file
As an application business analyst, you can use the Load Data process element to import and process data from an Excel (.xlsx) file attached to a record. This element reads the contents of the Excel file and converts it into structured data. You can then use this data within your process, for example, to create or update records in bulk.
To load data from an Excel file
- Log in to BMC Helix Innovation Studio and navigate to the Workspace tab.
- Select the required application.
- In the application, click the Processes tab.
- Click an existing process or create a new one to add the Load Data element.
- Enter values for the Label and Description fields of the element.
Click the Run As list to select the permission level to run the process service task:
- Current User—Uses the permissions of the user who triggered the process.
- Administrator—Uses administrator-level permissions.
- Inherit from Process—Inherits the permissions set at the process level.
- In the INPUT MAP section, fill in the following fields:
Property Description Example Attachment Specify the attachment from which the Excel data should be read. (Optional)Primary xlsx file name If the attachment contains multiple files, for example, within a ZIP file, specify the name of the Excel file to be processed. Is Synchronous Operation Specifies whether the process should wait for the data to load before moving to the next step. You can select from the following options:
- True—Waits for the data to finish loading.
- False—Moves to the next step without waiting.
- Click Save.
