Converting HTML to plain text


As an application business analyst, use the Convert to Plain Text process element to remove HTML tags from a text string and return plain text. This element processes, stores, or displays plain text from fields that might contain HTML content, such as rich text fields, email templates, or system messages.

Important
Application business analysts can customize the objects developed in their own applications, and that are marked customizable by the administrator. However, they cannot customize the objects developed in com.bmc.arsys in the Best Practice Customization mode. For example, objects in core BMC applications like Foundation, Approval, and Assignment cannot be customized in Best Practice Customization mode. For more information, see Customization layer

To convert to plain text

  1. Log in to BMC Helix Innovation Studio and navigate to the Workspace tab.
  2. Select the required application.
  3. In the application, click the Processes tab.
  4. Click an existing process or create a new one to add the Convert to Plain Text element.
  5. Enter values for the Label and Description fields of the element.
  6. Click the Run As list to select one of the following permission levels:

    • Current User—Uses the permissions of the user who triggered the process.
    • Administrator—Uses administrator-level permissions.
    • Inherit from Process—Inherits the permissions set at the process level.
       
  7. In the INPUT MAP section, fill in the following fields:

    HTML Tag WhitelistComma-separated list of HTML tags you want to retain in plain text. All other tags are removed. If the field is left empty, all tags are removed.

  8. Click Save.
Example

Seth, a developer at Apex Global, wants to remove HTML tags from user-submitted comments and store the plain text in another record field for search purposes.
