Troubleshooting Elasticsearch issues


When you configure Elasticsearch for  Full Text Search (FTS), you might encounter issues regarding FTS. Use the information in this topic to understand and resolve the problem or to create a BMC Support case.

Symptom

AR System displays an error while connecting to the Elasticsearch server. 

Scope

AR System server is unable to connect to Elasticsearch.

Resolution

Perform the following steps to troubleshoot the Elasticsearch connection issue:

  • Verify the Elasticsearch centralized configuration parameters and make sure the host and port are reachable from AR System server. 
  • Verify the Elasticsearch index name in arstartup_trace-xxxx logs by searching the string ES Index to verify if the logs contain any invalid characters.

Symptom

Elasticsearch search result order is different from Lucene FTS search.

Scope

BMC Helix Innovation Suite uses Elasticsearch version 7.10.

Resolution

The search order is changed because BMC Helix Innovation Suite uses ElasticSearch 7.10, which is based Lucene 8.0.0.

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
