Configuring RSS feeds

Users can receive RSS feeds related to AR System. Consider this example: Steven is an administrator who works in the IT department of a company. He wants to subscribe to RSS feeds so that his entire team can receive RSS feeds through the RSS feed clients. He logs in and configures RSS feeds by using the AR System Feed Definition form. Steven then selects the required links from the mid tier and copies the link to his favorite RSS feed client. He and his team now start receiving RSS feeds through that RSS feed client.

Before you begin

Configure the mid tier to make sure that the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) is specified for the AR System server name. To do this, open the Mid Tier Configuration Tool and click AR Server Settings. For more information, see Configuring-AR-System-servers-that-the-mid-tier-uses.

Make sure that the domain name is specified for the AR Server Name.

Important

If the domain name is not specified for the AR Server Name, an internal error is displayed when you try to access RSS Feed.

If an internal error is displayed even after specifying the correct domain name in the mid tier, check the entry in the AR System server to Key Map form. The entry in this form must be a FQDN of the AR Server Name, the same as configured in the mid tier. If there is a mismatch, correct the entry in the AR System server to Key Map form to match the value in the mid tier. Make sure that the FQDN of the remote AR System server can be resolved using the Domain Name System (DNS) from the central mid tier server and from the remote mid tier server.

If you are running a server group with a load balancer, make sure that the entry in the AR System server to Key Map form matches the load balancer server name that is provided in Mid Tier Configuration Tool.

If you are running a server group without a load balancer, that is, both the primary and secondary AR servers are added in the Mid Tier Configuration Tool, make sure that there are two entries in the AR System server to Key Map form. An entry for the primary AR server is already created during installation. Make a copy of that entry for a secondary AR server, changing only the Server Name to match the mid tier configuration. If there are more secondary servers, you must create additional entries for those secondary servers.

To enable RSS feeds

  1. Open the AR System Feed Definition form, enter the required information, and save the form.

If you are configuring RSS feeds, you must have administrative rights. However, to which RSS Feeds a user can subscribe to depends on the subscribers who are listed in the permitted subscribers list.

    For more information, see Defining-RSS-feeds-by-using-the-AR-System-Feed-Definition-form.

  2. As an administrator, subscribe to the RSS feeds.
    For more information, see Subscribing-to-RSS-feeds
You can now receive BMC Helix ITSM Suite RSS feeds through RSS feed clients.
