Defining Completion rules

A Completion rule determines when the approval routing process is complete. For example, a Completion rule can compare the current approver's signature authority against the estimated total on the approval request.

Completion rules are usually teamed with the Get Authority or Get Authority Regular rules. The authority rules retrieve information about an individual's or role's authority from other forms and make the information available to Completion rules.

To define a Completion rule

  1. Complete the basic information about the rule; for more information, see Creating-a-rule.
    • Select Completion from the Rule Type list.
    • Construct a rule condition. The Completion rule condition defines whether the approval process is complete and no further routing of the request is necessary. If the condition is met, the process is complete. If it is not met, the Approval Server returns the request to the Get Next Approver stage of the approval process.
  2. Click Save.

Example of a Completion rule

The following figure illustrates an example Completion rule from the Lunch Scheduler sample application. In this example, the temporary field Temp Decimal 1 on the AP:Detail form contains the current approver's signature limit, which was retrieved by a Get Authority rule. The rule compares the Estimated Total field on the approval request to this signature limit. If the condition passes, the approval process is considered complete.

You must define a Get Authority or a Get Authority Regular rule for the Completion rule to work correctly in this example.
