Performing a search by using the query-by-example method

If you perform a search within a form by filling out the FTS-fields in a form, you are performing a traditional query-by-example (QBE) Full Text Search.

However, the QBE Match field property affects QBE searches as follows:

  • If you do not set the property to Equal, appropriate wildcards are added to the search terms automatically.
  • If you set the property to Equal, you must add the appropriate wildcards to the search terms.
Warning
  • You cannot search for attachments by using the QBE method unless a special Form Search field is present on the form. For more information about adding a form search field, see Providing-a-shortcut-for-specifying-expanded-FTS-qualifications.
  • Do not use more than 255 characters in a word if you want to use the Anywhere option in the QBE search.

Users can enter a QBE in any field indexed for FTS, according to the following syntax:

left,center,right

However, the property settings influence how an accrue search works, as shown in the following table

To set QBE Match for a field

  1. In Developer Studio, open the form and select the required field.
  2. On the Properties section of the field, on the Database property, select the QBE match value from the QBE Match list.
