Web settings to support Section 508

To enable accessibility mode, user preferences must be set in the AR System User Preference form. The following settings are available on the Accessibility tab of the User Preference form:

  • Accessible Mode—Defines sight-impaired users' capabilities for a generated HTML page.
  • Default—No optimization.
  • Screen Magnifier/Low Vision—Integrates a third-party screen magnification device that Low Vision users can use.
  • Screen Reader/No Vision—Integrates an assistive device, such as JAWS, which No Vision users can use.
When adding image buttons to a form, you must add a label for the button image or alternative text so that screen readers can read the ALT tag for the image. When the No Vision option is set in user preferences, the screen reader uses the label text or alternative text.
  • Accessible Message—Controls the amount of nonvisual feedback provided through active links. The following options are not used in the Mid Tierfor version 6.3 and later.
  • No Action —Shows no message for accessibility. Active link message actions of the Accessible type are ignored.
  • Message Action—Displays accessibility messages defined by an active link message action of the Accessible type.
  • All Actions—Displays accessibility messages to reflect visual changes on the page, as well as accessibility messages defined by an active link message action of the Accessible type.

On the Web tab of the User Preference form:

  • Session Timeout in Minutes—Specifies the number of minutes for the session to time out. If no value is defined, the default value defined in the Mid TierConfiguration Tool is used. This value should be increased for No Vision users to provide them with enough time to go through a form.

If no user preferences are set, no Section 508 enhancements are made to the form. Section 508 enhancements are added dynamically for each user when the HTML for the form is generated.

Support for low-vision users

The Web supports sight-impaired users with No Vision mode. The Mid Tierdoes not provide explicit support for Low Vision users who need screen magnification. Low Vision users should use a third-party tool to magnify the screen. The Web provides Low Vision support by removing background images from forms.

Although the Web does not provide specific screen magnification support, several Internet Explorer settings are available to increase contrast and make the screen easier to read.
