Migrating overlay objects and custom objects
Migrator supports preserving customizations with overlays and custom objects by enabling you to:
- Select only overlays or only origin objects in the object list by using a context menu or by sorting on the Customization Type column
- Compare overlays at the source to origin objects at the destination
- Compare origin objects at the source to overlays at the destination
- Generate a detailed difference report for selected objects only
- Generate a detailed difference report for objects that are listed in a Migrator instruction file
- Generate a Migrator instruction file for selected objects only
- Generate a Migrator configuration file
- Generate a Detailed difference report for differences not permitted in overlays. See Comparing-objects-for-migration.
When you migrate objects from an earlier version of the AR System server to an AR System 7.6.04 server or later, Migrator migrates the origin objects but does not modify any overlays or custom objects.

You can migrate overlays and custom objects between the following locations:
- From one AR System server to another
- From a AR System server to a file
- From a file to a AR System server
- From one file to another
When the destination location is a file, Migrator updates it with the source objects, taking into consideration any masking options that you specify. It does not check whether overlaid or overlay objects are present at the destination.
