Configuring the Ignore Words List for FTS indexing

You can configure the Full Text Search (FTS) engine to ignore frequently used words, such as andthebecause, and so on, or words that you do not want to be indexed. Adding entries to the Ignore Words List saves space in the FTSindex and speeds up text searches. The FTSoption has a default set of ignored words to modify.

To define or modify the Ignore Words List for FTS:

You can use the arsftsnostem.stp file to avoid the stemming of words before their usage as ignored words in the AR System server. For example, if the arsftsnostem.stp file contains the word already then only the word already is used as an ignored word.

  • (For SaaS deployments only) Contact BMC Support to update the arsfts.stp file.

Consider the following important points about FTSand the Ignore Words List:

  • The Ignore Words List is different for each supported language.
  • You must perform FTSindexing if you create an entry in the Thesaurus file before restarting the AR System server.
  • When you initiate full text search on a computer, the FTSsearcher uses the ignore words defined on the corresponding indexer server. The FTSsearcher does not use the ignore words defined on the computer on which FTS is initiated.
  • When you initiate FTS on a computer, the value of the AR_SERVER_INFO_FT_SUPPORT_EXACT_MATCH_SEARCH configuration on the corresponding indexer server is used to perform the FTS. The value of this configuration on the computer on which FTS is initiated has no role to play in FTS.
  • You must re-index the data for the changes to the Ignore Words List to take effect.
  • Accrue searches that contain words from the Ignore Words List do not find any matching AR System server requests for those words. However, the accrue search retrieves requests for the other search terms. For restrictions on FTS, see Limitations-of-FTS.
  • AR System server does not support full-text search if you have a read-only database. For more information about using a read-only database, see Using read-only database.

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
