Copying workflow objects

Developer Studio supports copy and paste options to reuse elements in workflows objects and container objects. You can copy and paste elements of the same object type only. For example, you can copy an element from an active link and paste it in an another active link. But, you cannot paste it in a filter object.

Using the workflow editor or the Outline tab, you can copy a workflow object and paste it into another workflow. You can copy workflow elements, such as Associated Forms and Execution Options, or you can copy individual actions, such as Push Fields and Change Fields, from a workflow object.

You can copy a panel from the workflow editor and paste it on the Outline tab, and you can copy a panel from the Outline tab and paste it in the workflow editor. You cannot copy multiple panels at one time from the workflow editor.

To copy active link, filter, escalation, or form

  1. Open a workflow object in Developer Studio.
  2. Select File > Save As from the menu.

The Save objectType As dialog box appears.

  3. Type the new name for the object, and click OK.

To copy and paste workflow elements by using the workflow editor

  1. Open a workflow object in Developer Studio.
  2. Right-click the panel that you want to copy and select Copy.
  3. Open another workflow where you want to paste.
  4. Right-click the panel where you want to paste and select Paste.
If you copy granular components (such as forms or permissions), those granular sections must be editable in the destination object; otherwise, the Paste option will be disabled.

To copy and paste workflow elements by using the Outline tab

  1. Open a workflow object in Developer Studio.
  2. Open the Outline tab (Window > Show View > Outline)
  3. Right-click the node or action that you want to copy and select Copy.
You can copy multiple nodes or actions together and paste in a workflow. To copy multiple nodes or actions, press the Ctrl key and select nodes or actions.
  4. Open another workflow where you want to paste the node or action.
  5. Right-click the Outline tab and select Paste.
A message prompts you to confirm whether to replace or add the node or action. The paste operation replaces or adds based on your confirmation. When you confirm to paste and not replace, the operation places the copied node or action at the selected index, pushing the selected index item to the next index position.
When you copy and paste certain workflow elements, Developer Studio behaves in the following ways:
    • Association Forms panel—If a workflow already has a primary form associated with it, all associated forms are deleted or replaced, except the primary form.
    • If Actions and Else Actions panels or nodes—A message prompts you to confirm whether to replace or add the action or actions.
    • If you select Copy on the panel or the node, all actions within the node are copied. You can also copy and paste individual actions from these panels. While pasting, if you do not select the If Actions or Else Actions panels, the actions are placed under the If Actions panel, by default.

If you copy granular components (such as forms or permissions), those granular sections must be editable in the destination object; otherwise, the Paste option will be disabled.
You can use the Copy and Paste options for local applications and packing lists in the similar way that you use them for workflow objects.
