Enabling alert notifications


The alert notifications are available only for on-premises deployments.

The alert system engages when a filter or escalation Defining-a-Notify-action-for-email-alerts-or-other-applications sends a notification through the alert mechanism. This section describes how alerts work in .

The alert system consists of the following components:

  • The 
  • The Alert Events form
  • The Alert List form and Alert List field type
  • The AR System Alert User Registration form
  • Plug-in server alert capability
  • An installed plug-in to send alerts via Web services

The  uses the installed alert forms and related workflow to maintain a list of registered alert users, to store pending alerts, and to display each user's alerts in an alert list.

Application developers can configure an application to notify users about alerts by using the Notify workflow action with the alert delivery mechanism. Then, alerts are recorded as new requests in the Alert Events form when the workflow executes.  Users can view their alerts in the alert list in a browser. If you register users for the appropriate alert types, your application can send alerts to a plug-in. Through the plug-in server, alerts can be delivered to various destinations outside of , such as a web service or a social networking service.

The Alert Events form is installed with . This form contains the alert message, identification information about the source request, the name of the user to whom the alert is directed, and information about the alert status.

The Read field is set to "X" when the user opens the alert. The Sent Successfully field is an indication of whether the Alert was sent successfully. If a user is registered for more than one alert destination, this field is set if the alert is delivered successfully to any one of the destinations. Use of this field is optional and is controlled by the Update Sent Flag field in the AR System Alert User Registration form. See Registering-users-for-alerts.

You cannot delete the Alert Events form and its original fields, but you can add fields and workflow to the form.
