Rescheduling the archiving process

To improve system performance, as an administrator, you can reschedule the archiving process to avoid peak business hours.

In addition, you can set a recurring schedule to skip the archiving process on certain days. For example, if you have a deployment planned every Tuesday, you can choose to skip the archiving process on Tuesdays.

Scenario: Rescheduling archiving to off-peak hours

Rescheduling archiving to off-peak hours

At Apex Global, an archive process is scheduled to run every day at 12:00 AM.

Jonnie, an administrator at Apex Global,  observes that an update is deployed every Wednesday at 12:30 AM. He wants to reschedule the archiving process to avoid the slowness in the update that is deployed in the environment.

He creates an overlay of the ARSystem:DisableGlobalArchive and ARSystem:EnableGlobalArchive escalations and performs the following tasks:

  • Enables the ARSystem:DisableGlobalArchive and ARSystem:EnableGlobalArchive escalations.
  • Reschedules the archive process to run between Thursday to Tuesday every 24 hours and skip the archiving process every Wednesday.

The updated archive schedule runs at the interval you specify in the Run Every (hours) field on the Archive Manager Console. The following screenshot shows the Run Every (hours) field on the Archive Manager Console:

To reschedule the archiving process

  1. Open Developer Studio and select the Best Practice Customization mode.
  2. In AR System Navigator, select Escalations.
  3. To enable archiving, select the ARSystem:EnableGlobalArchive escalation and create an overlay.
  4. To disable archiving, select the ARSystem:DisableGlobalArchive escalation and create an overlay.
  5. Click Execution Options.

  6. From Status, select Enabled.
  7. From Run By, select Time.
  8. Use the panel to reschedule the archiving process.
  9. Save the changes.

The archiving process is enabled at the specified date and time and the archiving process runs at the time interval you have specified on the AR System Archive Manager Console.
