Introduction
As BSM matures with a solution-oriented product delivery orientation, some of the challenges include:
- Deployment failure caused by infrastructure component incompatibilities
- Difficulties that customers have with staying current on BMC releases
To ensure that product releases provide a cohesive set of solutions, BMC places a significant emphasis on solution-oriented, use-case-based design, development, testing, and validation.
To achieve successful deployments and upgrades with BMC products, the BSM Reference Stack initiative has been created to set best practices for infrastructure and application compatibility across all products released as a part of the BMC Reference Stack.
Definition of the BSM Reference Stack
The BSM Reference Stack promotes consistency and standardization for BMC suites and solutions via the following sets of components:
- The infrastructure stack, comprised of third-party components (OS, middleware, databases)
- The application stack, comprised of BSM products
All suites and solution development, validation, and deployment recommendations are based on the BSM Reference Stack.
Objectives of the BSM Reference Stack
The main objectives of the BSM Reference Stack are as follows:
- Develop a best practice for successful deployments and upgrades
- Identify compatible versions and patch levels of BMC products
- Provide a certified matrix of infrastructure supported by all BSM products
- Achieve BSM application compatibility across all the products within the Reference Stack
- Address the pain points of components releasing on multiple frequencies
The BSM commitment to customer value realization is managing reliable deployment and application and infrastructure compatibility as the primary focus of the BSM Reference Stack effort.
Benefits of the BSM Reference Stack
The main benefits of the BSM Reference Stack are as follows:
- BMC can commit to reliable product deployments and upgrades for customers.
- The BMC Field and Customer Support organizations can communicate a concise, certified matrix of infrastructure that is supported by all BSM products. (The stack does not include application versions of technology components outside of the BSM Reference Stack.)
- BSM applications are compatible across all products that are released as part of the BSM Reference Stack.
