Creating templates


As an application administrator, you can create templates for definitions that you use while creating agreements or service targets. You can create templates in the Application Administration Console or use those that are shipped with BMC Service Level Management.

To create a condition template

A condition is a predefined qualification that is used in request-based service targets for terms and conditions or measurement criteria.

  1. From the Application Administration Console, select Custom Configuration > Service Level Management > Configure Application Settings > Templates.
  2. To display the Configure Templates form, click Open.
  3. Select Show Templates For Condition and click Create.
  4. In the Condition Template dialog box, in the Name field, enter the name of the template you want to create.
  5. Enter a description of the template in the Description field.
  6. In the Applies To menu, select the application it applies to.
  7. To define the conditions for the template, click Define.
  8. Click OK.

To create a measurement criteria template

  1. From the Application Administration Console, select Custom Configuration > Service Level Management > Configure Application Settings > Templates.
  2. To display Configure Templates form, click Open.
  3. Select Show Templates For Measurement Criteria and click Create.
  4. In the Measurement Criteria Template dialog box, enter the name of the template you want to create in the Name field.

    Important

    When you create an Service Target (SVT) by using a locale other than English, ensure that you do not use the localized Measurement Criteria Template.

  5. Enter a description of the template.
  6. Select the application it applies to.
  7. Select the Measurement Type from the menu.
      You can select from Request-Based or Availability.
  8. Define when the measurement criteria starts in the Start When field.
  9. Define when the measurement criteria stops in the Stop When field.
  10. Define exclusions for the measurement criteria in the Exclude field.
  11. Click OK.

To create a goal and cost schedule template

  1. From the Application Administration Console, select Custom Configuration > Service Level Management > Configure Application Settings > Templates.
  2. To display the Configure Templates form, click Open.
  3. Select Show Templates For Goal and Cost Schedule.
  4. Click Create.
  5. In the Configure Goal and Cost Schedule Template dialog box, enter the name of the template you want to create in the Name field.
  6. From the Goal Type menu, select which type you want to create.
    You can select from Request-Based, Availability, CI Outage, or Service Impact Manager.
  7. From the View menu, select what you want to view.
    You can select from All, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Default.

    Important

    A Default entry is required for a complete schedule.

  8. To add a goal and cost schedule, click Add.
  9. On the Goal and Cost Schedule screen, add the following mandatory values and click Save:
    1. Name
    2. Day
    3. Start Time
    4. End Time
    5. Hours
    6. Minutes
  10. Click Save.

To create a milestone template

  1. From the Application Administration Console, select Custom Configuration > Service Level Management > Configure Application Settings > Templates.
  2. To display the Configure Templates form, click Open.
  3. Select Show Templates For Milestone and click Create.
  4. In the Create Milestone Template dialog box, select the milestone you want to create in the Used By list.
    You can select from Request-Based, Availability, and SLA Compliance.
  5. Click OK.

To create an action template

You can associate action templates with milestone templates so that adding the Milestone template to the service target or agreement includes the associated action templates. Associations are not part of the template so if the association is modified, it does not affect the service target or agreement that use the templates.

  1. From the Application Administration Console, select Custom Configuration > Service Level Management > Configure Application Settings > Templates.
  2. To display the Configure Templates form, click Open.
  3. Select Show Templates For Action.
  4. Click Create.
  5. In the Create Action Template dialog box, select the milestone you want to create in the Used By list.
    You can select from Request-Based, Availability, and SLA Compliance.
  6. Select the application it is associated with in the Applies To menu.
  7. Select the Action Type you want to run.
    You can select from Set Value, Alert or Email, Pager or Run Process, Set Fields and Push Fields.
  8. Click OK.
