Installing the BMC Remedy ITSM - Mobility server


This topic provides instructions for installing the BMC Remedy ITSM - Mobility server. The BMC Remedy ITSM - Mobility is not installed by any other BMC Remedy product.

Before you begin

Download the installation files from the BMC Software Electronic Product Distribution (EPD) site.

Warning
  • Be sure to review and verify the system requirements before beginning the installation.
  • It is preferable to install the BMC Remedy ITSM - Mobility server on its own computer. However, as an alternative, it can be installed on the BMC Remedy Mid Tier server.
  • The Mobility Administration Server is a BMC Remedy AR System application that can be installed on an BMC Remedy AR System server. However, the AR System server must be the AR76 version or above.

Preinstallation requirements

Java JDK 1.6 32-bit must be preinstalled on the server.

No other preinstalled software is required before installing the BMC Remedy ITSM - Mobility server on Microsoft Windows.

No other preinstalled software is required before installing the BMC Remedy ITSM - Mobility server on Red Hat Linux 5.3.

The following packages must be preinstalled before installing the BMC Remedy ITSM - Mobility server on Red Hat Linux 6.1:

  • libX11-1.3-2.el6.i686.rpm
  • libXau-1.0.5-1.el6.i686.rpm
  • libxcb-1.5-1.el6.i686.rpm
  • libXext-1.1-3.el6.i686.rpm
  • libXi-1.3-3.el6.i686.rpm
  • libXtst-1.0.99.2-3.el6.i686.rpm

    Warning

    Note

    • Apache is not auto-detected, even if it is already installed. You must manually select the folder.
    • Apache is not installed as a service. An administrator must configure it to start as a service.

To install the BMC Remedy ITSM - Mobility server

  1. Run the setup.cmd file from the location where you downloaded it from the EPD site.
     You are notified that you need to upgrade Terminal Service configuration.
  2. Follow the procedures on the page, and then click Next.
     The installer determines the version of the operating system.
  3. Follow the procedures on that page and then click Next.
  4. On the Welcome page, click Next.
  5. On the Review License Agreement page, select I agree to the terms of the license agreement and then click Next.
  6. Select the directory in which you want to install the server or select the default directory, and then click Next.
  7. On the Mobility Server and Cluster selection page, select the type of installation that you want to perform.

    There are three options:
    • Install Mobility Server in new cluster – Choose this option if the Mobility server is being installed for the first time.
    • Install Mobility Server in existing cluster – Choose this option to have multiple Mobility servers load balanced.
    • Upgrade Mobility Server – Choose this option to upgrade only the Mobility server binaries. The Remedy defn that is installed for the Mobility Administration console is not changed.
  8. After selecting an option, click Next.
  9. On the Mobility Administration server information page, enter the required information:

    Enter the following three items:
    • The BMC Remedy AR Application Service password. (This is not the Mid Tier administrator password.)
    • The Host Name or IP Address. For this selection, you can enter either the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN), or the Hostname or the IP address, as long as the computer can resolve it.
    • The BMC Remedy AR System server port number, which has a default value of 0. If this field is blank, then the portmapper is used. If the BMC Remedy AR System server is installed on a port, then that port number must be used.
  10. Click Next.
     The installer validates the BMC Remedy AR System server credentials.
     If you chose Install Mobility Server in new Cluster in step 7, then the Mobility Data Store Information page appears. If you chose another installation option, then go to step 12. Otherwise, continue.

    The application data that is synchronized to the mobile device is hosted on the BMC Remedy AR System server. This is referred to as the Data Store server. Installing the Mobility Administration application requires information about the Data Store server. This information enables the Mobility Administration server to connect to the Data Store server and synchronize data.
    Enter the following information:
    • Application Service Password.
    • Host Name or IP Address.
    • BMC AR System server TCP port number.
  11. Click Next
  12. If Tomcat 6 or Tomcat 7 is already installed on your system, go to step 19. Otherwise, continue.
  13. To install the Apache Tomcat web server, click Yes.
  14. Click Next.
  15. Select the default directory to install Tomcat, and click Next.
  16. Enter 8080 for the Tomcat HTTP port, and click Next.
     The installer validates the port.
  17. Enter the JDK 1.6 32-bit path.
  18. Enter the Mobility Server port. The default port is 80.
  19. Click Install.
     The installation page is displayed. Follow any instructions from there until the installation is complete.

 

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
