Configuring Android Push Notification certificates

This topic provides information about registering with Google Cloud Messaging for Android (GCM) services and configuring Android Push Notifications.

Note

C2DM is now deprecated, and it is no longer available.

To create a new Google account and sign up for an Android GCM service

Use the following procedure to create a new Google account and sign up for an Android GCM service:

  1. Create a new Google account before registering with GCM service
  2. Create a Google API project by going to https://code.google.com/apis/console/.
  3. Be sure to remember the project number in the URL (13620121083 in the example https://code.google.com/apis/console/#project:13620121083. This is used as the GCM sender ID for configuring Android push notifications.
  4. To enable the GCM service, go the Google APIs Console page.
  5. Select Services.
  6. Turn the Google Cloud Messaging toggle to ON and accept the terms.
  7. To obtain the API key:
    1. Go to the main Google APIs Console page and select API Access.
    2. Click Create new Server key.
    3. Click Create.
    4. Remember the API key, which will be used as the GCM Authentication key to configure Android push notifications.

After you sign up for the Android GCM service, the next step is to enter your GCM Sender ID and Authentication key in the Mobility Administration Server, as shown in the next section.

To configure Android Push Notifications

Use the following procedure to configure the Android Push Notification certificate in BMC Mobility Administration server.

  1. Log into the Mobility Administration Server, and find the Mobility Administration: Push Notification Cert. form.
  2. Create an entry in the Mobility Administration: Push Notification Cert. form for each of your mobile applications. If you already created entries for your mobile applications, then use the existing entries.
    1. In the entry, use the menu to select Mobile Application ID and Tenant ID.
    2. Choose the Default Tenant.
    3. Enter the Google API project number into the Android GCM Sender ID field.
    4. Enter the API key into the Android GCM Authentication Key field. The API key is stored in an encrypted format.
    5. If you did not install the Configuration Notification plug-in on the Mobility Administration Server, then install it and restart the Apache Tomcat server. See Installing AR Filter API Plugins for the Mobility Admin server about how to do this.
