Distributing applications to BlackBerry devices

This topic provides information for administrators who need to distribute BMC Remedy ITSM - Mobility: Service Desk applications to BlackBerry devices.

To distribute from the BlackBerry Desktop Manager

  1. Before starting, you must have BlackBerry Desktop Manager (DTM) installed on your computer. You can get the latest version at http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/desktop/.
  2. Connect your BlackBerry device to your computer by using the USB cable that came with it or any USB cable that fits.
  3. Start the DTM.
  4. Click Applications.
  5. Select Import Files and browse to the NextGenClient.alxfile. The ALX file for each operating system version is under:
    • IncidentsMobile/blackberry/Desktop/For_5.0.0
    • IncidentsMobile/blackberry/Desktop/For_6.0.0
    • IncidentsMobile/blackberry/Desktop/For_7.0.0
    • IncidentsMobile/blackberry/Desktop/For_7.1.0
  6. Unzip both the ALX and COD files into the same folder. Otherwise, the installation will fail.
  7. Click Apply.
The Incidents application is installed on your mobile device.

This step may take couple of minutes. Do not disconnect your device until the installation is complete.

  8. After the installation is complete, you can exit the DTM and disconnect your BlackBerry.

To distribute over the air

  1. Open your BlackBerry browser.
  2. Go to the page that contains the OTA link.
  3. Click the link. A screen appears that contains the application details.
  4. To download the application, select Download.
The download starts, and the application is installed on your BlackBerry.

You might be prompted to restart your BlackBerry before you can use the application. However, even if you are not prompted, BMC recommends that you restart your BlackBerry before using any application.
