Distribution modes for BMC Remedy ITSM - Mobility Service Desk applications on  iOS

This section provides Apple iOS device requirements and distribution information for administrators who need to distribute and push BMC Remedy ITSM - Mobility: Service Desk applications to end users.

The following topics describe the iOS device requirements and distribution methods:

The following major distribution models are available for Apple iOS applications. Depending on your company's location and other considerations, you must choose one method for distributing the iOS client to your end users

Apple Business to Business App Store distribution mode

Following are the highlights of the Business to Business distribution mode:

  • This mode is available only for U.S.-based companies with a Data Universal Numbering System (DUNS) number.
  • The enterprise must have an Apple Volume Purchasing Program.
  • BMC distributes the relevant client versions to customers through the store.

Apple Enterprise distribution mode

Following are  the highlights of the Enterprise distribution mode:

  • This is the only mode that is possible for non-U.S. companies.
  • This mode requires that a customer is an Apple Enterprise Developer.
  • The client .swf file must be given to customers.
  • The customer creates an application build using their own Enterprise certificate.
  • The customer distributes the relevant client versions employees via their own website or via desktop iTune.
    • This does not require that the Unique Device ID (UDID) be collected.
    • There is no limit on the number of client distributions.

Following are examples of enterprise distribution methods:

  • The enterprise hosts an "app store" (not an iTunes App store but a third-party application store that the enterprise runs) from which end users can download the Mobility application.
  • The enterprise hosts a website, from which it distributes the Mobility application to end users over-the-air (OTA). See Distributing-applications-to-iOS-devices.
  • Administrators send out the BMC Remedy ITSM - Mobility: Service Desk application as an email attachment, and the end users save the application to their desktops and then synchronize it to their devices by using the iTunes desktop application.
