Performance Benchmarking of Multi-Cloud Service Management

The BMC Performance team carried out in internal benchmark to test the performance of BMC Helix Multi-Cloud Service Management version 18.05. This benchmark test was conducted using 3 tenants and a total of 450 concurrent users. Test workload was based on realistic user interactions in an enterprise customer deployment. BMC Helix Multi-Cloud Service Management provides out-of-the-box flows to integrate BMC Remedy with Smart IT with Amazon Web Services (AWS), Salesforce Service Cloud, Atlassian Jira, and CA Agile Central.

During the BMC Helix Multi-Cloud Service Management performance testing , the following integrations were considered:

  • Incident Brokering with Salesforce Service Cloud
  • Dev-Ops Integration with JIRA Instance.

BMC Helix Multi-Cloud Service Management which uses Integration Service version 18.05 was hosted in an AWS environment managed by Kubernetes. Though there are many connectors available in Integration Services the following connectors were used during the performance testing:

  • Remedy ITSM Connector
  • JIRA Connector
  • Multi-Cloud Connector
  • Service Cloud Connector

The performance testing approach was incremental; the tests started with 150 users, then 300 users and finally 450 users. This process helped to debug the test environment, fix errors in configuration, and fine tune the number of database connections, jetty threads, and others.

Benchmarking provides the following benefits:

  • Establishes a performance baseline with metrics such as use case response time, CPU and memory usage, and number of records processed in a Multi-Cloud flow.
  • Evaluates the capacity of the system, or current or future workload.
  • Identifies performance issues and tuning recommendations.

Performance test results demonstrated that Multi-Cloud application was easily able to sustain a load of 450 concurrent users and provided consistent response times for user actions while expending a low-to-moderate percentage of available CPU resources. It was also able to scale and perform to meet the records processing targets. These test results also able to help to plan for future growth and capacity needs.
