Copying planning scenarios

You can create a copy of an existing planning scenario to use as a template for creating new scenarios. A copy of an existing scenario is especially useful for financial forecasting. When you copy a planning scenario, the application creates a copy of the Planning Scenario, along with all its attributes and budgets.
If you specify an actual end date (in the Actual End Date field) for the copy of the planning scenario, the application copies actual budget items up to the specified date and budgeted items after that date till end of the fiscal period.
For example, consider a planning scenario called Scenario A. Scenario A is set for January 2011 to December 2011 and contains an asset with the following budgeted and actual line items:

Cost/Month

Therefore for Scenario A, the IT Department Budget total is displayed as 1200.

Next, you create a copy of Scenario A called Scenario B. You specify the actual end date of Scenario B as June 2011. The application creates a copy of Scenario A and copies over the following budgets:

Cost/Month

Therefore for Scenario B, the IT Department Budget total is displayed as 1260.

Similarly the application copies the actual budget data for sub departments up to the actual end date that you specify while copying the scenario.

If you do not specify an actual end date for a copy of the planning scenario, the application copies the budgeted line items only. In this case, the actual line items are not copied over.

Warning

Note

The Actual End Date that you specify while creating a copy of a planning scenario remains fixed for a scenario. You cannot edit this date later.

To copy an existing planning scenario

  1. On the Summary tab of the Planning Scenario that you want to copy, click Copy.
The Planning Scenario: Copy Of window is displayed. The default name of the scenario is Copy of <CurrentPlanningScenario>.
  2. In the Name field, specify the name for the planning scenario.
  3. In the Description field, specify a short description for the planning scenario.
  4. From the Type menu, select the type of planning scenario.
  5. In the Actual End Date field, specify the end date for copying the actual budget line items.
The application copies actual budget line items from the original planning scenario up to the date that you specify in this field and copies budget line items after this date till end of fiscal period.
After the Planning Scenario has been copied, the window automatically displays the new copy.
  6. To change the name of the copy, click Edit and replace the name.
You can also edit any of the budgets to reflect the new scenario.
