Install required version of the software

The following versions of the software provide the integration of BMC IT Business Management Suite with BMC Remedy Change Management application:

  • BMC Remedy Change Management, version 7.6.04SP2 or above
When you install BMC Remedy Change Management application, a new Project Summary form is installed. The project summary form provides project summary from BMC IT Business Management Suite in BMC Remedy Change Management.

    Warning

    Note

If you use a locale that is not supported by BMC IT Business management Suite in BMC Change Management application, the Project Summary in Relationship tab in BMC Change Management always displays the data in English. For example, if you use BMC Change Management application in Japanese, when you display the Project Summary in the Relationship tab, it is displayed in English. This is because Japanese is not a supported locale in BMC IT Business Management Suite.

  • BMC IT Business Management Suite, version 7.6.04SP1 or above
The installer for BMC IT Business Management Suite installs the Change and Release tab in the Project Details form in BMC Demand and Resource Management. You use this tab to initiate or related to changes and releases in BMC Remedy Change Management application.

    Warning

    Note

The BMC IT Business Management Suite installer can also install the Project Summary form in BMC Remedy Change Management application.

Secure adequate licenses

To add information to the BMC Remedy Change Management application, you must have a BMC Remedy AR System write license (fixed or floating). This license is also required when you link or initiate a change from BMC IT Business Management Suite.
For information about licenses, see Working with BMC Remedy AR System licenses.

Set user permissions

BMC IT Business Management Suite uses the permissions groups to control access to their various forms, modules, and functions. An administrative-level user defines users and permissions for BMC IT Business Management Suite in BMC Remedy AR System. Similarly permission groups are required for BMC Change Management application users to control access to their various forms, consoles, and functions. To initiate changes or link to changes from BMC IT Business Management Suite, a user requires permission groups for both BMC IT Business Management Suite and BMC Change Management application. Similarly, to view project details from BMC Change Management application, a user requires BMC IT Business Management Suite project related permission groups in addition to the Change Management permissions.

Warning

Note

The permissions work in conjunction with support group affiliations. For example, the users with Infrastructure Change User permission can create or edit changes for support group that they belong to.

For more information about permission groups, see Permissions-for-integrating-with-the-BMC-Change-Management-application.

Specify support groups

When you use a change or release template to initiate changes or releases or link to changes or releases from BMC IT Business Management Suite, you must belong to a support group. The support group affiliations work in conjunction with permission groups. For example, the users with Infrastructure Change User permission can create or edit changes only for support group that they belong to.

Support groups are not used in BMC IT Business Management Suite. You can create support groups in BMC Remedy AR System. For more information on creating support groups, see Creating and managing groups.

Ensure change templates are present

A template is a predefined process that provides default settings on the Change form. You use the Application Administration Console in BMC AR System to create change templates. Users can select any templates that are available for their support group.

Warning

Note

Only a change manager, or users with Change Master or Change Config permissions, can create change templates for their support group.

An administrator can create simple change templates that you can use to initiate a change request from BMC IT Business Management Suite. You can select any templates that are available for your support group. The template then automatically populates the predefined settings in the change request created in the BMC Remedy Change Management application.

Warning

Note

BMC recommends always using change templates to initiate change requests from BMC IT Business Management Suite.

The change template created for BMC IT Business Management Suite users may contain more settings than those available through the BMC IT Business Management Suite interface. All settings are used when the change request is created in BMC Remedy Change Management application.
For more information about creating change templates, see Creating templates.

Using auto assignment when you do not create templates
If you do not create or use change templates for the changes initiated in BMC IT Business Management Suite, the software provides an option to use the assignment routing set in BMC Remedy Change Management application. In BMC Remedy Change Management application you can configure assignment routing so that the system automatically assigns change requests to the appropriate support group. For integration with BMC IT Business Management, you create two types of events - Infrastructure Change Coordinator and Infrastructure Change Manager.
 To create assignment routing:

  1. On the Standard Configuration tab of the Application Administration Console, select the operating company.
  2. Click the Create link next to Assignment.

    The Assignment dialog box appears.
  3. In the Event field, select the type of assignment entry, either Infrastructure Change Coordinator or Infrastructure Change Manager.
  4. In the Assigned Group field, select the support group to assign.
  5. In the Routing Order area, specify the operating company.
  6. Click Add.
  7. When you are finished adding assignment routings, click Close

    Warning

    Note

If you do not need to display the auto assignment option for changes initiated from BMC IT Business Management Suite, you can use the advanced administrative interface in BMC IT Business Management Suite to turn it off.
To remove this option from user interface, complete the following steps:

    1. Go to http://<hostName>:<port>/itm/magick.do.
      • hostName: Server on which BMC IT Business Management Suite is installed
      • port: Port number
    2. Log on with your BMC IT Business Management Suite administrator user name and password.
    3. Select the Config Parameter tab.
    4. Change the value of the OFFER_CHANGE_REQUEST_AUTO_ASSIGN parameter from Y to N.
    5. Save your changes.

Ensure release templates are present

Similar to Change templates, you use release templates to quickly and efficiently create standard releases with a minimum of mouse clicks and keyboard entry. You must create a release template or multiple release templates to be able to initiate release requests from BMC IT Business Management Suite.
You can create simple release templates that the users can use to initiate a release from BMC IT Business Management Suite. The template then automatically populates the predefined settings in the release created in the BMC Remedy Change Management application.
For more information on creating release templates, see see Creating templates.

Set up required project templates

A project template is a pre-defined project lifecycle set by an administrative-level user in BMC IT Business Management Suite. To ensure that a task is created for every change that you initiate from BMC IT Business Management Suite, you must include the Schedule task in the project template.

Warning

Note

If the project is in locked state (deferred, cancelled, or completed) the user can only view the changes. The users will not be able to perform any other task such as add, link, reorder, edit or unlink a change.
