Creating new projects


Use the procedure in this topic to create a new project.

To create a new project

  3. In the Benefitting Organizational Units field, select the appropriate Organizational Unit.

  4. From the Template list, select a project lifecycle template.
    The template you select determines the phases and steps for this Project through the project lifecycle. An administrative-level user can create or edit a project lifecycle template.

  5. In the Project Start Date field, specify the start date of the project.
     The start date of the project is used when you estimate resources for this project. The Estimate Resources pane displays the project start date in the Planned Start date field. Therefore you can estimate resources for the period starting from the project start date.
  6. In the Project End Date field, specify the date for the end of the project.
     Similar to project start date, the project end date is used when you estimate resources for this project. The Estimate Resources pane displays the project end date in the Planned End date field. Therefore you can estimate resources up to the period ending at the project end date.

    Note

    When you upgrade from a previous version of BMC IT Business Management Suite to version 8.1, the software automatically populates the Project Start Date and Project End Date fields. You must verify the dates for accuracy after running the upgrade.

  10. In the Access Restriction field, specify the names of the organizational units that can access this project data.
  11. In the Approver Template field, specify the template containing the name(s) of the users who must approve the project during the approval phase.
     The project lifecycle template might have a default approver template attached. The template that you specify in the Approver Template field are in addition to the default approver template. An administrative-level user can configure approver templates.
  12. Click Save and New or Save and Done.
    The Project Details screen appears for the last Project you created.
