Creating programs


Programs consists of hierarchy of sub-programs and sub-projects that are dependent on each other. The financial values in a hierarchical program are rolled-up to the parent program.

You must have the ITBM Project Management Office permission to create a program.


To create a program

  1. In the left navigation pane of the main BMC IT Business Management Suite window, click Programs.
  2. In the Programs window, click New.
     The New Program Overview window is displayed.
  3. In the Name field, enter a name that identifies the Program.
  4. In the Requested By field, select the individual who requested this Program.
  5. In the Benefitting Organizational Units field, select the appropriate Organizational Unit.
  6. In the Project Managers field, specify the names of project manager and alternate project managers, if any.
     By default, this field displays the name of the user creating the project.
  7. In the Responsible Organizational Units field, select the Responsible Organizational Units (the units that have chief responsibility for ensuring development of the project.)
  8. From the Template list, select a program lifecycle template.

    Note

    The program templates are equivalent to project templates that the administrator defines for the projects in your organization.

    The template you select determines the phases and steps for this program through the project lifecycle. An administrative-level user can create or edit a project lifecycle template.

  9. In the Program Start Date field, specify the start date of the program.
  10. In the Program End Date field, specify the date for the end of the project.
  11. In the Program Needed By field, either enter a date or click the calendar icon and select a date.
  12. From the Importance list, select the value that best represents the relative importance of this program when compared to the other programs in the Portfolio.
  13. From the Category list, select the category that you would like to assign to this program.
     Categories are typically defined by your system administrator for your organization.
  14. In the Sub Programs/Projects field, select the projects or programs to include in this program.
     The chooser displays all existing projects and hierarchical programs that exist in the system. The chooser does not display the projects and hierarchical programs that are already part of a hierarchical program.
  15. In the Description field, enter descriptive text.
  16. In the Project Approver Template field, specify the template containing the name(s) of the users who must approve the program during the approval phase.
     The project lifecycle template might have a default approver template attached. The template that you specify in the Project Approver Template field are in addition to the default approver template. An administrative-level user can configure approver templates.
  17. In the Access Restriction field, specify the names of the organizational units that can access this program data.
  18. Click Save and New or Save and Done.
    The Project Details screen is displayed for the last program you created.
