Initiating and reviewing a business case for a new  project

A business case captures the reasoning for initiating a project or task. It is often presented in a written document, but may also come in the form of group discussions, or presentations. A business case includes information such as the expected business benefits, the options considered (with reasons for rejecting or carrying forward each option), the expected costs of a project, a gap analysis and the expected risks. Based on information collected for a business case, IT can decide if the business case warrants a start of a project or should be closed.

Starting from 7.6.04 SP1 version of the software, the SRD does not provide this field. This is because the software now uses the on-behalf-of rules that the system administrator sets while configuring BMC Service Request Management. For more information about setting the rules, see Creating on-behalf-of definition rules in BMC Service Request Management Administration Guide.
