Creating assets


To create an asset

  1. In the Assets window or in the Asset Details window, click New. The New Asset window appears.

  2. Type a unique name for the asset in the Name field.
  3. Enter as much of the additional information as you have available.
    Clicking Edit next to any field launches the chooser for that field. Use the chooser to create relationships between the asset and the other BMC Foundation objects you select. Click Save in each chooser to save your selections and close the chooser.
    Use the following table to guide your responses in the New Asset window.

    Identifies where in the IT organization the asset is used.
    Defining IT function and site per asset gives visibility to your asset base. For example, you can see all the data center assets in North American Operations or all the desktop assets in Europe.

    Identifies the asset as leased rather than purchased.

    Site

    Specifies the location of the asset.

  4. To save all the information you entered and display a blank New Asset window to create another asset, click Save and New.
  5. When you have finished creating assets, click Save and Done to save your changes and exit the New Asset window.
    The Asset Details window appears for the last asset you created.

 

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
