Creating application instances


Use the procedure in this topic to create application instances.

To create an application instance

  1. In the Application Details window or in the Application Instance Details window, click New on the Application Instances title bar.
    The New Application Instance for Application window appears as shown in the following figure:

    The instance that you create is automatically linked to the parent application.

  2. Type a name for the application instance in the Name field.

    When naming the Instance, consider including an indication of the associated application to make the instance name a unique identifier for easy searching and selection later in the chooser, where the application name will not be visible.

  3. Use the following table to guide your responses in the New Application Instance window.

    The location where this instance is installed.

    Version number or release number of the instance.

    Linked Application Interface Instances

    Establishes a relationship between this application instance and each application interface instance that you select.

     

    Business Owners

    Establishes a relationship between this application instance and each business owner that you select.

     

    Executive Sponsors

    Establishes a relationship between this application instance and each executive-level advocate that you select.

     

    IT Staff

    Establishes a relationship between this application instance and each IT staff member that you select.

     

    Organizational Units

    Establishes a relationship between this application instance and each organizational unit that you select.

     

    Business Processes

    Establishes a relationship between this application instance and each business process that you select. Establishing relationships between applications and business processes tells you which applications are supporting the organization's key business processes. This provides greater understanding of the impact of application changes on the business environment.

     

    Assets

    Establishes a relationship between this application instance and each asset that you select.
    Establishing relationships between applications and assets gives you insight into the assets running any application. For example, you can capture which servers support a particular application. With this information, you can judge the impact of an asset failure on its associated applications, business processes, and end users.

     

    Vendor Services

    Establishes a relationship between this application instance and each vendor service that you select.

     

    Expected Start Date

    Specifies the start date entered for this application instance.
    To help understand your application architecture at any point in time, you can establish start and end dates for each application. You can predict a future state and reconstruct a past state.

    Expected End Date

    Specifies the end date for this application instance.

  4. To save all the information that you entered and to display a blank New Application Instance window to create another instance for the same application, click Save and New.
  5. When you have finished creating application instances, click Save and Done to save your changes and exit the New Application Instance window.
    The Application Instance Details window appears for the last application instance you created.
