Upgrading to version 8.1


The BMC IT Business Management Suite installation program enables you to upgrade the product. The steps for upgrading to version 8.1 are the same as for a new installation.

Warning
  • If you also need to upgrade to a new version of BMC IT Service Management (ITSM), you must do so before upgrading to the 8.1 version of BMC IT Business Management Suite.
  • If you need to upgrade your JBoss Application Server version, you must do so before running the BMC IT Business Management Suite installation program. For more information about upgrading JBoss Application Server, see the following pages:

To upgrade from versions 7.6.04 (or 7.6.04 SP1), 8.0 to 8.1

  1. If you use JBoss application server, delete all files from the following directories under ...\jboss-as\server for JBoss 4.3 or ...\jboss-as\server\productionfor JBoss 5.1.1
    1. work
    2. tmp
    3. data
  2. Complete the installation worksheet.
  3. Run the installation program.
  4. Complete the post-installation procedures.

To upgrade from version 7.6.03 to 8.1

Warning

When you upgrade from version 7.6.03 to 8.1 and run the installation program the first time, it overwrites any existing BMC Atrium Integration Engine (AIE) integrations.

  1. Stop the application server.
  2. Run the installation program.
  3. Migrate the organizational unit hierarchy in BMC Remedy AR System using the 7.6.03 to 7.6.04 Upgrade Helper.
  4. Start the application server.
  5. Complete the post-installation procedures.

To upgrade from version 3.8.x to 8.1

Warning

You cannot upgrade directly from BMC IT Business Management Suite version 3.8.x to version 8.1. First, you must manually install version 7.6.03 and then use the BMC IT Business Management Suite installation program to upgrade to 8.1.

Information
  • The IT Service page in version 3.8.x contains the Class and Sub Class fields, which are not in IT Business Management 8.1. If you want to retain the values in the Class and Sub Class fields, you can manually add them to the Category and Sub Category fields by using the Admin page.
  • Unit of Measure has been deprecated. If you use BMC Service Cost Management, then Unit of Measure is a code table that is reflected through the consumption metric associated with the cost model.
  • Project Prioritization has been deprecated. Instead, you can use the Project Portfolio scenario to prioritize projects.
  1. Stop the application server.
  2. Set up the database server to manually update from version 3.8.x to 7.6.03.
  3. Run the installation program.
  4. Migrate data to BMC Atrium CMDB.
  5. Complete the post-installation procedures.
  6. Start the application server.
