Warning

Notes

  • If you choose to install the application as a non-root user, you must log on to the Linux system with the same Linux user ID that was used to install BMC Remedy Action Request (AR) System.
  • Before you begin the installation on Linux, ensure that you have set a ulimit -n x, where x has value of at least 70000.
  • You must have administrative-level permissions to the database to run the installation or upgrade successfully.

Recommendations

Install the application server and BMC IT Business Management Suite core components on two different computers. To do so, you run the installation program on each computer: on one to configure the application server and on the other to install the application core components.

If you are installing the application on Linux, then do so as a root user.

To install the product

  1. Run the installer file on the DVD or download it from the EPD site.
    • On Windows, the installer file is located at:
      installer\windows\BMCITBusinessManagement\windows\Disk1\setup.cmd
    • On Linux, the installer file is located at:
      /installer/linux/BMCITBusinessManagement/Disk1/setup.sh
  2. Using your installation worksheet, enter the required information.

When you install the product, certain sample data is inserted. If this data already exists on your workstation, you might receive index violation error messages. These errors can occur when installing the product in any language.
You might receive an error message for either of the following reasons:
    • A previous version of the product is installed on your computer and you are upgrading to a more recent version.
    • You have installed other products previously.
If you receive an error message when you are installing or upgrading, you can ignore this message. The necessary data already exists, and the product will function properly.

To run the installation program in Pause mode

If you need the capability to pause during the installation process, you can run the BMC IT Business Management Suite installation program in the Pause mode by using the following command:

  • Windows: setup.exe - Dbmc.install.PAUSE_MODE =true
  • Linux: setup.sh - Dbmc.install.PAUSE_MODE =true

To install the product to a server group

A server group consists of two or more BMC Remedy AR System servers that are designated as part of a group that share the same database. Servers that belong to the same group can provide backup for server operations that can run on only one server at a time. Critical operations have greater availability because you can configure any server in the group to back up another server's operations.

To install BMC IT Business Management Suite in a server group environment, you must use the primary BMC Remedy AR System server. The installation program generates error messages if you supply information for a secondary BMC Remedy AR System server.

Warning

Note

If you use a load balancer in your environment, ensure that you use the information for the primary BMC Remedy AR System server and not for the load balancer. Using information for load balancer would result in incorrect installation of the software.
