Multi-tenancy in BMC IT Business Management Suite
Multi-tenancy enables you to keep data separate among multiple companies, organizational units, or other groups. It also enables you to host multiple companies and their data on a single server. You can not only control which records and configuration data are exposed to a user, you can also configure the BMC IT Business Management Suite to cater to each company's requirements.
The multi-tenancy feature is enabled by default, regardless of whether the tenancy mode is set to single tenancy or multi-tenancy in BMC Remedy AR System. You can select the company whose data you want to work with.
You can use multi-tenancy to control access in a hosted environment. In a service-provider environment, multiple companies might use a single application with the data for each company hidden from the other companies. Multi-tenancy controls access to data based on the name of the top-level company. A user with access to only one company cannot see data for another company.
Suppose a Global Service Provider provides BMC IT Business Management Suite for two companies, Calbro and ABC Corp., as illustrated by the following figure.
In this scenario, some users have access to Calbro information and some users have access to ABC Corp. information:
- Admin A: Administrator who can access information only for Calbro.
- Admin B: Administrator who can access information only for ABC Corp.
- Calbro User: Person who has data access only for Calbro.
- ABC Corp User: Person who has data access only for ABC Corp.
In this scenario, all administrators might work for Global Service Provider. However, separate logon and password information is required for accessing BMC IT Business Management for each top-level company. The Calbro or ABC Corp. users have access to data only for their own companies.
