Added feature for creating cost model scenarios
You can now create cost model scenarios for your organizations. A cost model scenario is a set of cost models that are grouped by time and purpose and that enable you to assess the impact of changes in resource costs, quantities, and allocations for service cost models. You can modify, compare, and analyze the cost model scenarios. You can also use cost model scenarios to perform what-if analysis of all data related to the set of cost models in a scenario. Because all cost models are grouped by cost model scenario, all related analysis, such as bill of IT or chargeback, is based on cost model scenario as well.
The following user interface enhancements support cost model scenarios:
- A new tab, Cost Model Scenarios, in the Cost Models window enables you to create new cost model scenarios and to view the existing cost model scenarios.
- An out-of-the-box default cost model scenario enables you to start creating cost models for your IT services.
- All cost model analysis windows, such as Bill of IT, Chargeback and Financial Summary, are now based on active cost model scenarios.
- New alerts notify users of cost model scenarios.
Added feature for adding and analyzing the price of a business service
You can now use BMC Service Cost Management to specify price for your business service. You can use price data to generate user bills, calculate revenue, and compare revenue with cost of providing a service. Also, you can create what-if scenarios to determine the right price.
The following user interface enhancements support specifying and displaying price information:
- You can use the Price tab in the cost modeler window to specify the unit price information for a business service.
- The Financial Summary tab in the IT Service Details window now displays the following additional tables:
- Profit/Loss Summary compares revenue with the actual cost of a business service.
- Forecast Summary compares planned with actual revenue.
- Price Summary compares price with actual unit cost of a business service.
- The Chargeback tab in the IT Service Details window now provides the View By option for displaying chargeback data. When you set View By to Price, the chargeback analysis data that is displayed is based on price values.
- The Bill of IT window now provides the View By option for displaying the data. When you set View By to Price, the data displayed is based on price values.
Added new portlets for service cost showback
You can now use the following additional portlets in the Home page of the application:
- Service Cost Profit/Loss Analysis: Compares average price with average actual cost and total revenue with total actual cost.
- Service Cost Analysis by Cost Elements: Breaks down the total cost in terms of cost elements used in the cost models that represent a service in the selected cost model scenario.
Enhanced viewing of the consumption metric
The following user interface enhancements in BMC Service Cost Management support improve access to consumption metric information:
- The Financial Summary tab in the IT Service Details window now displays a new row, Consumption Metric. Click the name of consumption metric in this row to display the details of the consumption metric related to the cost model for the related time period.
- The Chargeback tab in the IT Service Details window now displays the Consumption Metric column in the Cost Model table. Click the name of the consumption metric to display the details of the consumption metric.
- The New Organizational Unit option in the Edit Consumption Metric Details window was renamed to Add New Row to reflect the actual task that you perform by using the option: you add a new row to the consumption metric table and then add information for an organizational unit in that row.
Updated default values for fiscal start and end period
BMC Service Cost Management application was updated to show fiscal start and end dates as the start of the current fiscal year and the end of the fiscal year by default. In the previous release, the current month was displayed as end of fiscal period. The following windows were updated:
