Creating new cost model


Failed to execute the [bmc-contextid] macro.

To create a cost model for a service, you need information of all items such as assets, applications or projects that contribute towards that service.

BMC provides out-of-box templates for cost models that you can use to model your own services. You can copy a template to use as a base for creating a new cost model. For more information about out-of-box templates, contact your BMC representative.
You can begin creating a cost model in two ways

  • You can create a cost model and then associate it to a service. In this case, start creating a cost model by using the Cost Model option under the IT Business Management header in the left navigation bar.
  • You can create a cost model for an existing service that you have added in the

    To create a new cost model

  1. Warning

  4. In the Scenario field, select the name of the cost model scenario. By default, all cost models are assigned to Default Cost Model Scenario that is supplied out-of-box. 

    Warning

    Note

    After you create a new cost model, you cannot change the cost model scenario associated with it.

  5. In the Modeler field, click Edit and select the names of the modelers.
     A modeler is a user associated with a cost model to receive all notification messages. The software sends notification each time a cost model requires a refresh or if a cost model is refreshed with updated values. By default, this field displays the name of the user who creates the cost model. You can optionally update the field to add or remove additional users.

    You can also choose to display the modeler information in the list of cost models in
     the Cost Models window as an additional column.

  6. Warning

  7. Set the Auto-refresh option for the software to automatically refresh the cost model if there are any changes to the underlying elements. By default, this option is selected. You can de-select this option if you need to see the original values defined for the elements in a cost model before you refresh the cost model for updated values. The software is set to auto-refresh cost models at the interval of five minutes.

  14. In the Notes field, specify notes for the cost model. The notes information is specific for a cost model. The information is not carried to other models that you create as a copy of the existing cost model.
  15. In the Access Restriction field, specify the name of organizational units or support groups that have access to this data.
